The cryptocurrency world is filled with risks. Today I just found out that an exchange on which I had some crypto is gone...with my crypto. I wonder if I will ever be able to get it back? This is why it is said – “not your keys, not your crypto”. They went up in smoke and I was referred to the attorneys handling the liquidation via a downloadable form to fill in. What a mess.  I have some crypto on about four or five different exchanges, and ice3x.co.za was one of the local ones here that took my South African ZAR currency. It was one of the first that I used back in early 2018, when I bought some Litecoin and Ethereum. I left in on the exchange for all these years, which was my mistake, I acknowledge that. It’s not much. But it’s a lot for someone to lose – 0.5 LTC and 0.1 ETH. Especially at today’s price. I never bothered about checking up on it for the past year actually. I forget when last I even logged on to that exchange, but when I did now, I see that they went bust or whatever it is, two months ago. I see that a lawyer’s office is handling the case and they provide a download of a letter I can fill in to the lawyer, presumably requesting my crypto. I’m not knowledgeable in legalese so am not sure of the details. I don’t even know exactly how much crypto I even had on the exchange, but I think it was as I mentioned above.  Such are the pitfalls of dealing in crypto. One day it’s there and the next it’s gone. Exchanges crash sometimes it seems, going bust or whatever it is. I have sent them an email and filled in a ticket so let’s see what happens. Maybe I can get my crypto back from them but I have no expectations. If it’s lost then I’m not attached, even though it’s thousands of ZAR, my local currency, which would easily pay my rent for a month or something like that. You can’t get too attached in this business. Life is not about money, but about the experience. Fortunately it’s only a small amount...relatively speaking. The rest of my crypto is on some other exchanges, which hopefully are more legitimate. I don’t like paying the fees every time I need to move it to a wallet, so I leave it on the exchanges. It could be my downfall, though I have faith in the other exchanges, like Binance and the two other local ones that take my ZAR fiat. After all, I have buy orders on those other exchanges, so I am actively trading my fiat for crypto there. They look fine and are working well so far. The majority of my crypto is still safe thankfully. It was a loss and that’s how it goes in the cryptocurrency business. I really can’t be bothered about money lost like this. It is not where my life and focus is prioritized. My time and space are more important to me, along with the freedom to use them both as I see fit. Money is just an added extra lubricant to grease the wheels of life, but if it goes then I can carry on without it. One needs to be stoic and philosophical about trivial mundane aspects like this little loss of some investments. Otherwise it will eat you up if you worry about it. I have learned to avoid hankering and lamenting, thanks to my training in yoga and meditation based on the Vedas of India. I’m also already in my 50s, so am mature and philosophical about life. It’s all temporary and will come and go with time. Nothing is permanent. I still have a fine attitude and a great life, even with minimal assets and currency to show for it. I do however have plenty of time and insight and wisdom, so life is great and the other income stream is going on well enough to pay the rent, month by month. And my other crypto on the four other exchanges is doing well. Just be aware that exchanges do sometimes crash and burn, and that it can happen to anyone who leaves there crypto on an exchange. Tough luck but you seem to go with the flow and see the lesson in it. I recently lost access to my Exodus wallet and a couple of 100 Euros in coins after my harddisk crashed ( and I discovered that I didn't have all my keys/ pass phrases backed up ). I was relieved that I eventually managed to get back in my Metamask / Binance Smart Chain wallet with a couple of 1000k in it but, even if I'd lost the latter, I would have been alright, learnt from it and moved on. My meditation and mindfulness in the last 5 years or so is clearly paying off and I clearly notice this in these kind of situations. I managed to stay pretty calm throughout the recovery process and also when my machine broke down on me. Now it's working again, with a new harddisk and running smoother than it has done in years. Who knows, you might actually get back your money and, if this happens, it's a nice bonus. Greetings from Portugal, Vincent

Hey there Vincent, many thanks for your feedback. I'm so glad you are living a balanced life in Portugal with meditation as well as crypto investments. Yes these occasional losses are part of the journey and really not too concerning. Indeed I might get the coins back.
