Listen now as I continue my strange tale of the monk Ajamiel who walked the narrow way of the yogi but who was bewildered despite all his training, and fell into the darkest web of illusion, a web which bound and entangled him for an entire lifetime. And this web could have thrown him into the depths for many lifetimes, if it wasn’t for one ray of light which stayed with him and acted as his saving grace at the final hour, when it was most needed.

**The tale of Everyman**
This strange tale, which I discovered in the ancient Sanskrit text called Bhagavat Purana, is one of many such tales that describe the events of ancient history and even the dawn of creation. Yet it is this particular tale regarding the monk Ajamiel which felt particularly revealing to me personally, and resonated with my own journey along the path of enlightenment.
Thus I share it with you now dear reader, so that we may all learn from the experience of Ajamiel and see the world for what it really is, a playground and pleasuredome where eternal souls are allured by the shiny yet shallow trinkets and toys of enjoyment, only to be ensnared like a victim in cage, to be exploited and ensalved, often by their own minds, driven mad by lust for something they do not even need.
**Ajamiel’s crisis and testing point**
Our tale finds us now at a time where Ajamiel had lived for some years in the monastery ashram of his spiritual teacher and had learned all the priestly arts, as well as developed the good character of a godly person. He had qualified in his training and had finally left the remote hilltop monastery to return to the village where his family lived, down below in the valley.
One day, under the request of his father, Ajamiel – now a young man at the height of his strength – went to the forest on the outskirts of the village to collect fruit, flowers and the two types of grass needed to perform the rituals and ceremonies at the home altar for the morning. These two types of grass are caled “samit” and “kusha”, used to make the sitting place upon which a yogi or priest sits when planning to perform a fire ceremony as an offering to the gods, or to go into meditation for any length of time.
**A trap is laid**
While returning home with the collected items, Ajamiel was walking along the foot path when he saw in the ditch beside the path a laborer, who did manual work, lying with a prostitute. He was shamelessly embracing and kissing her, thinking he was hidden from public view. Ajamiel, who was a strictly celibate monk, and who had lived a very sheltered life in the monastery for almost all of his youth, became bewildered by this sight.
The laborer was smiling and singing and enjoying as if this was proper behavior, like a man drunk on liquor bought with his week’s wages and thus totally out of his mind. The eyes of the laborer and the prostitute were rolling in intoxication. Their clothes were loose and Ajamiel could see the naked body of this unchaste woman. Traditionally those members of the upper class brahmana or priestly scholarly order of society never indulged in alcohol or any intoxication, what to speak of illicit sex outside of marriage.
**The levels of society – aka varnashrama dharma**
However, only about 5% of society was part of this caste, the rest were either administrators (involved in government or military), or they were mercantile (farmers, traders, bankers), or they were less educated laborers, artists, musicians, actors and servants who assisted the other orders. The strictest regulations were practised by the higher echelons of society but it was understood that not everyone could maintain such a high standard of purity, so laborers were allowed to indulge more than the rest.
Upon seeing this degraded behavior in front of him on the path, Ajamiel tried to remember the instructions of the sacred texts that he had studied in the monastery up on the mountain. One should not even look upon a naked woman, or meditate on her or contemplate sex in the mind, if one was a monk performing the priestly duties of the brahminical order.
**The mind is easily bewildered**
With the help of this knowledge, Ajamiel tried to control his lusty desires which had been triggered by the site of the couple ensnared in the throes of procreation. However, the force of Cupid within his heart was too strong and he failed to control his mind. The impressions were now there and they had tainted his mind like the stain of red wine upon a white cloth, contaminating it and degrading it beyond recovery.
When we look at our modern society today, this tale of such innocence and purity seems like a fantasy. We hardly see any example of it in our world. It no longer exists. No one takes such qualities seriously any more. Chastity and celibacy are archaic concepts from the long forgotten past. For us the images of embracing and intoxicated lower class men and women are the norm. And one could say that this is just one symptom of how fallen our culture has become in this last age of iron, called Kali Yuga in the Sanskrit Purana, from which this tale emerges.
At this crucial moment Ajamiel’s life path took a turn to the dark side. This was the critical juncture which led to further degradation.

**Modern inversion of civilization**
As a monk spending his days in the monastery high up in the mountains, Ajamiel used to think to himself “The tragedy of so-called civilized life, is that civilization appears to have been inverted. What was once taboo is now recommended as healthy and even pushed upon the masses via advertising. Illicit sexual experience is openly flaunted as a sign of how advanced we have become, in the name of so-called free speech and the right to self-expression. Media deliberately allure and inflame the senses and lust of people, with the specific goal of turning them into more avaricious consumers.”
He laughed to himself to see how the village people were so easily enamoured.
He thought further “By placing profit above purity of consciousness, by making money the center of their world, by pushing a culture of constant acquisition for more, our civilization has ridden roughshod over the more subtle qualities of good character and basic piety, in order to pursue money as their god. It’s as simple as that. This inverted world where sin and debauchery is openly encouraged and piety is considered now taboo, is one which is deliberately engineered by motivated opportunists who know the nature of the human mind and are deliberately dragging it into the pit of degradation with the specific purpose of exploiting everyone and making us victims of their abuse.”
Ajamiel was wise beyond his years, having entered the monastery at such a young age and heard the old teachers explain things philosophically.
**The modern world is controlled by agents of illusion**
He thought of the wooden carved sculptures that decorated the temple rooftops. They resembled wrathful deities smiting wrathful looking demons with tridents.
He, thought to himself “An evil force has gripped the minds of humanity and is strategically destroying the last vestiges of actual civility in this final and dark age called Kali Yuga. The advertising in the posters outside the shops in the village are a tool used by the money worshipping, gold loving merchants who are addicted to the allure of shiny trinkets. They are however, merely servants of their own senses as well as puppets doing the will of the goddess Maya or Durga, who is the prison warden of this material world. By trying to enjoy as much as possible, the mind becomes covered over and sense gratification becomes the main drive.”
Ajamiel was dismissive of the village people who seemed so absorbed in worldly affairs way down in the village below.
“This is animal existence.” He thought to himself, remembering the words of his teacher during the morning class before breakfast. “We are being groomed to live like animals, and thus the agents of Kali systematically work at covering over the last intuitions of higher consciousness that may have been present in the entrapped spirit soul, here in this material world.”

Ajamiel felt his wooden rosary beads in his right hand, held between his thumb and longest finger. He chanted his mantra softly to himself once on each bead.
His mind wondered again...”In this way the living entity is covered, and instead of been encouraged to remember their original eternal identity beyond the material body, they are bound up even more tightly in the material body, entrapped in it by being pushed to identify with it as the self.”
**Promoting one liberty to hide another**
Ajamiel was glad that he had fasted yesterday during the prescribed fortnightly fast. He felt that his senses were pacified and his mind was clear. As he chanted the sound of his teacher from this morning’s class echoed in his mind’s ear: “That is what unbridled freedom of expression leads to. The ideal of ‘freedom of speech’ has led to images of naked women freely available for anyone to access on at any time they choose. And this is praised as liberalism and freedom of speech. I believe that this is a deliberate plot to entrap the minds of the uneducated masses so that they may be dragged down in consciousness and become stuck on the bodily platform lifetime after lifetime. It is engineered entrapment by the elite who run the world, who are themselves actually dark agents of the wicked witch called Maya.”
Ajamiel chanted still more mantras fervently at the thought of the dark goddess Maya doing this thankless task of covering the eternal living entities and throwing them down into forgetfulness here on the earth plane.
Having lived his youth in the monastery ashram, Ajamiel had good company which made it easy for his mind to stay fixed on his goal of liberation and perfecting the priestly duties as well as his meditation. He found his mind wondering as he chanted his mantra, to how the sexualization of younger and younger people that he saw, was only a further slide into such degradation. The preoccupation with pushing them into bodily gender preoccupation is merely the next level of such planned entrapment of the eternal spirit soul in the cage of the body. That’s why consciousness and the pursuit thereof is sadly not taught in village schools and why gender confusion is actively pushed by motivated leaders of our cities today.
“Maya’s little helpers” he thought “are paving the way to prolonged human existence for all souls that take birth today. Atheism, and gold as the god, along with sexual abuse as free speech, all of this is just one more step down to damnation”.
**A voice crying in the wilderness is usually called a madman**
As he scurried away from the site of the laborer and the prostitute that he had just witnessed, Ajamiel thought to himself “But who will take me seriously when I call out this criminality? Who will comprehend this philosophically contrarian insight when it is the total norm into which we are born and raised? When you’re born in a prison, you don’t know what it’s like to be free, so you accept your prison walls as the standard. And my young peers today down in the village far below are being groomed by the leaders into being enslaved and preoccupied by sex and thus led to over-identify with the animal propensities.”
Ajamiel knew that this kept the spirit soul entrapped for lifetimes, thus fulfilling the plan of those averse to higher consciousness and the path of enlightenment for us all.
Believe what you will, dear reader, it’s your choice. I am simply repeating what I have learned from the ancient texts like Bhagavat Purana, and the tales like this one of Ajamiel, written down thousands of years ago already in our ancient past. And I speak from experience in my mid fifties after a lifetime of study and observation on this planet you take as your home.
The abuse and sexual exploitation of the weak by the strong has always been a tragedy of life. And the instinctive urge to mate or to enjoy the senses has always been built in to the body of all living entities. And that weakness for pleasure is exploited by the strong and used to entrap the weak. Which is why knowledge is so important.

But my retelling of the tale of Ajamiel is not over, there is more to come. So tune in tomorrow for the next instalment to find out what happens to our pious monk, as he becomes ensnared in the net laid out by Maya to entrap the living entities via lust for sex and greed for gold. You will be intrigued to hear what is yet to be revealed.
