Pastimes of Bhagavat vol 2 – King Prithu’s rise from wicked Vena’s demise part2/6
Chapter two of an ancient legend – A throne with no heir leaves the king in despair

A stranger tale I could not tell, even if I tried, dear reader. Nevertheless, continue I must, for the legends of old need to be retold, lets the ancient Sanskrit texts from which they originate are lost from our sight and the strange legacy of our history as a human race on this planet becomes forgotten. Who knows what unscrupulous leaders who now rise to the fore might wish to do in their attempt to manipulate the trend of civilization at this juncture in history?

More than once in the history of humanity we have seen libraries burnt, wise and saintly cultures eradicated, all so that we lose vital knowledge of our origins, our past and our original potential in this rare human form of life. Selfish kings and politicians with short-sighted little five-year plans, rise to the throne and attempt to cement their position for one short lifetime, or even for their future dynasty by eradicating the past and placing their citizens into ignorance of the bigger picture.

At times like these record-keepers had to flee and hide their sacred texts and histories in caves to preserve them for you and I. Such a time is upon us once more, as censorship and twisted narratives are imposed upon the world and its virtual libraries. Dark forces that operate behind the scenes now pull the strings of their puppet presidents and chairmen, all the while systematically erasing any vestige of truth or wisdom regarding the latent capacity of every one of us in human form, to rise out of this mortal coil, shaking off the shackles forever and attaining our original transcendent state in realms or planets far superior to this little globe we currently and temporarily find ourselves on.

But my tale is of a more pious time and a more saintly dynasty of kings and their wise sages who advised them. As our tale continues one such king, named Anga, was very aggrieved at his inability to make contact with the celestial beings from the higher planetary systems, despite all the best efforts of his priests, mages and mystics. He asked his wisest council what sinful activity he might have performed that has blocked his access to the extra-terrestrials who would normally take his calls and stay in touch.

The king’s head priest then revealed to him that in this life he had committed no sin, not even in his mind but in a past life something had occurred which still hampered his ability now. Curiously in past great ages, even a negative thought – despite not being acted upon – could incur negative repercussions. Today, perhaps thankfully, considering our degraded mentality, one actually has to act upon the thought to actually see the results for better or worse.

Besides that, king Anga was also thus unable to have a son which he greatly desired in order to continue his dynasty. The solution, according to the chief mage, was to perform a grand ritual and ceremony to invoke the greatest or topmost celestial personality, namely Vishnu himself, the actual lord of the multiverse and source of all the other demigods, celestial beings and of course all earthly inhabitants like ourselves. If you go directly to the source, then he will take your call, and come to fulfil your wishes. Not only that but he will bring all the other demigods from their respective higher planets with him.

Now there are two types of spiritualists – those who are personally motivated and those who are selfless. The ancient Veda has chapters for both. If you want to invoke the blessings of the gods for some personal material end, then there is what is called the Karma kanda section, which has all the prayers and ceremonies to call upon the demigods, the lower gods, who can answer your prayers for material reward. Specific members of these celestial beings are involved in overseeing specific departments of life and existence, like managers who work under the original CEO of the company. If you want wealth, progeny, fame, strength or whatever, you can offer prayers and perform the appropriate sacrificial ceremony to the specific deity, demigod or goddess that predominates over that department, according to the ancient Sanskrit Veda.

Conversely there are those spiritualists who are not materially motivated and who are selflessly approaching the gods, and particularly the original supreme source, out of love and respect, with no desire for reward. Such souls are rare but this is the ultimate platform aspired for by any genuine spiritual seeker. After all, are the birds and the beasts not provided for in nature already? Does the rain not fall even on the ocean who has no need or desire for it? Already everything is going on by the supreme will of the original cause of all causes. Why should we beg for our paltry lot as if there is some great lack?

Add to that the fact that when one has tapped in to ones real identity as eternal spirit soul, full in knowledge and bliss, then there is no more hankering or feeling of lack or even separation from that ultimate source, who is always present in the heart of all living beings already. So the symptoms of one in full realization are self-satisfaction and wholeness. Therefore a really successful person has no desires and is transcendentally situated. Of course such a great soul is very rare, though it is something one can aspire to.

Such wise souls do not even really pray to return to the original kingdom of god. Once you are self-realized, you may have no sense of separation from source at all, wherever you are. Perhaps out of compassion such souls would pray for the mercy to flow to all the other conditioned and suffering living entities on this planet. And the prayers of such souls calling for the upliftment of other living entities are indeed powerful, or so it is described. So that gives one hope.

In the next chapter I will continue the narration of king Anga and his priests so stay tuned as we churn the nectar of these timeless tales to see what comes from them.
