I'm Brazilian, I live here in Brazil and I want to write to you about what inflation is like here.

So I was born in the 1980s. In that decade we had no inflation. We had hyperinflation. I was a child and I don't remember how things were, but I remember the older ones saying that right after receiving their salary they had to go to the market to shop, because the next day, the price of the products should have been much higher. expensive.

I think those were dark times. This changed in the 1990s with a new economic plan. This made the inflation stay in the 10% house, as it is today. It is much lower inflation than in past times, but it still carries immense danger in itself. I'll tell you what it is. Look at this photo:

It shows inflation in Brazil and food prices in 2019 and 2022. I will translate some for you, putting the price in dollars, thinking that each dollar is worth 5 reais (Brazilian currency).

So, the first item on the list is soybean oil. It cost 0.63$ in 2019 and went on to cost 1.97$ in 2022. The second item is the potato. It cost $0.49 in 2019 and went from $1.39 in 2022.

The penultimate item on the list is salt. It used to cost 0.23$ in 2019 and will cost 0.29$ in 2022. The last item on the list is the banana. It cost 0.51$ in 2019 and went on to cost 0.59$ in 2022.

As you can see, both the first items on the list and the last ones suffered very high inflation. Some have gone up more than 200%.

The big problem with this is that the Brazilian minimum wage increases very little, not following the rise in prices. This makes Brazilians lose their purchasing power year after year and become increasingly poor.

In the United States, as far as I know, inflation grows between 1% and 2% a year, so Americans don't feel this rise in prices much.
