An Appreciative Attitude That Keeps On Giving (Una actitud apreciativa que sigue dando) | The Grateful Contest

I came across a contest hosted by @phoenixwren in the Feel Good Community, I immediately looked over the requirements and found them not too onerous. When I think of the word "gratitude", I think of a similar word, *attitude*. To me, being grateful is all about how you perceive yourself and the world around you. A person may not agree with everyone in all instances, but placing one's self in a position to appreciate the other person's opinion and outlook causes that person to be grateful for another person allowing an insight into a world of possibilities.

Understanding that not a single person on this Earth has the obligation to assist you in any way should automatically elicit a response of gratefulness when someone reached out to you with a word, a touch, or a helping hand. 

Also, understanding that nothing in life is guaranteed, the act of waking each day to a fresh beginning is one in which a person should be thankful.

##### Someone you are grateful for offline

In all interpersonal relationships, especially offline in your everyday life, you may come in contact with, be acquainted with, or have family members that are important to you.

When someone places him or herself in front to shield you from harm, it's an unselfish act and attitude. This attitude is the most loving gesture one human can extend to another. There is no repayment of equal kind except to express your gratitude. You can do this by word or action. 

And this is exactly what happened when, at the beginning of the year 2020, Coronavirus raged in my state and city.

I had just been diagnosed earlier in the year with Type 2 Diabetes. This illness, together with other underlying conditions, such as heart and thyroid problems wreaked havoc on my immune system as I struggled to adjust to several different diabetes medications. Knowing my underlying medical conditions and the probability that I would contract the disease if exposed to the general public for any length of time, my spouse volunteered to face the public in my stead. I'll never forget his words, ***"let me"***.

He shops, attends functions, and ensures I'm on time for my doctor's appointments and my medications are taken. Severe arthritis in both knees shoulders, hands, and back limits my activities, especially standing and walking. He's been my legs and continues to this day.

There is a saying that people come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime to aid in your hour of need. I'm so grateful that my husband came into my life and has endured for a lifetime. 

I can only continue to love him with a fierce commitment that has sustained us for over 50 years.

##### Someone you are grateful for here on Hive

Although she is young enough to be one of my daughters, @deeanndmathews is wise beyond her years in attitude and understanding about life. Since meeting over three years ago in a writing community, she has taught me immensely about topics I'm not versed in, both on and offline. We both love fiction writing and creating various types of art. However, she is far beyond what I'm capable of in terms of creativity. You can easily locate her daily in the Freewriters' Community.

Not only does DeeAnn possess a wealth of musical talent, she is an educator of youth offline working in a church setting. A former professional journalist, she's also a published author.

She stands ready to support anyone in need and doesn't hesitate to impart information that will benefit their Hive journey. For that, I'm grateful, especially when it comes to cryptocurrency. She doesn't hesitate to alert me to important happenings on Hive and prompt me to review my Witness votes regularly to ensure they are working for policies of I believe in.

She's known as "Miss Dee" in her curation role she took upon herself to give back to the platform. Her weekly bilingual curation report is packed full of Hive members' articles one can draw inspiration from in the areas of finance, art, travel, commerce, photography, fiction writing, creative arts, and music. She even highlights new members on Hive so others can welcome them aboard.

##### An object you are grateful for that makes your life better/easier

When it comes to making your life better or easier, there's nothing like a feeling of independence. This is especially true for people in society over the age of 50. Literally hundreds of items are available to senior citizens that assist them in their daily lives. 

For individuals with medical conditions such as I have, especially arthritic knees, locating the right equipment to assist in mobility is essential. I have Osteoarthritis. This condition originates in the bones, not the muscles. When attacks occur, the pain is excruciating. I can't bear to stand upright for more than fifteen minutes.

My physician advised me to exercise. But how can one do it effectively when the pain is so intense? Medications for this conditions conflict with my diabetes, heart, and thyroid conditions. 

I've already undergone knee surgery. Arthritis in th knee can't be cured. The only effective solution long term is mild pain relievers, which I take daily.

I declined total knee replacements on both knees. Instead, I purchased an assistant to help me with my mobility. My cane I purchased works wonders when it's necessary for me to go outdoors for any length of time.

My physician also advised that for future needs I purchase a walker that also includes a chair to sit if I become tired. I've already located one and will purchase it soon.

Cuando pienso en la palabra "gratitud", pienso en una palabra similar, *actitud*. Para mí, ser agradecido tiene que ver con cómo te percibes a ti mismo y al mundo que te rodea. Una persona puede no estar de acuerdo con todo el mundo en todos los casos, pero situarse en una posición que le permita apreciar la opinión y el punto de vista de los demás hace que esa persona se sienta agradecida por otra persona, lo que le permite comprender un mundo de posibilidades.
