In this Week 41 of the ZAPFic50 Friday, the prompt "tone" reminds me of my mother when she wanted to convey a certain message to me. I could hear the pleasure or displeasure in her voice. Also, how forceful she delivered the message meant I understood the meaning behind her words. I hope my story conveys the sentiment of the message.

**Below is my story:**

A trial run our leader assured us. Ellison pulled back his cloak, exposing the code. Before I could deliver the agreed-upon coins to the guard's outstretched hand, a familiar voice hidden away whose tone rang "betrayal" yelled out. 

Moments later, sirens screeched. Soldiers advanced toward our vehicle.

Devastated, we prayed.

@felt.buzz and the Freewriters Community bring you a new microfiction format. This ZapFic50 Friday challenge tests our ability to construct as near complete a story as we can using only 50 words. The challenge starts on Fridays. It's a great writing opportunity over the weekend using various prompts as your guide.
