When *No Man's Sky* was first released, it was incredibly underwhelming and I was incredibly disappointed. Each planet I landed on seemed like a copy-and-paste of the last, the feeling of exploration was minimal, and I was bored out of my brain. 

I turned it off after about 4 hours and it stayed off until around a year or so ago when I was informed that the game had gotten better since launch. Curious, I opened it back up and gave it another go, but I personally didn't notice any real difference and turned it off again.

It recently had a substantial update, so last night it was decided that I should try it agaaaain and thus my partner and I started a new game.

My internet has been absolutely abysmal lately. For about two months now I've been getting constant drop-outs, some of which last up to 5-6 hours, so any attempt at a multiplayer game is wrought with anxiety and fear. Will I be able to stay connected for longer than 10 minutes? Will, by some miracle, I manage a whole hour? Perhaps the internet will be kind and stay connected for the entire duration? 😬

These disconnections also began at a rather questionable time, leaving me wondering if an outside party somehow infiltrated and ravaged the DPU my line's attached to. But that's a conspiracy theory for another day.

I'm writing this post in a time of no internet so God knows when I'll actually be able to post it. ***As I disconnected, I was under attack!*** ~ I made the mistake of investigating an abandoned structure with tentacles that unfurled from the ceiling... as I made my way back to my little spaceship I noticed a few *whispering eggs* on the ground. What were these things? I couldn't pick them up. I couldn't scan them.

So.

### I shot them!

Horrifying creatures from the great beyond exploded from the eggs! Then, as I shrieked, "Uh oh!" over Discord, the internet died. 

It's kind of funny in a way. 

I shriek and then, from his end, all goes eerily silent. That was pretty timely, haha.

#### I just have to say that I'm finding the game far more interesting this time around.

From evil creatures inhabiting whispering eggs within tentacle-infested buildings (that were apparently in the game at launch but I never came across them), to giant-arse worms that leap out of the ground a bare half-metre from where you're standing and soar overhead, to space pirates and bounties and quests to fulfill... the game, so far, definitely seems much improved.

There's even a massive hub thingee where you can actually *see* other people, group up with them, grab and complete various quests. I remember that being a huge downside at the game's launch: it was sparse, lonely, and you couldn't even play with a friend.

Multiplayer was definitely an improvement that this game needed. I'm honestly not sure I'd be enjoying it right now if I were playing by myself. I love open-world, sandbox, survival, exploration games -- they're my favourite type of game -- but in this specific game, multiplayer was desperately needed. 

At the moment we're on the hunt for a suitable world for base-building. Haven't come across anything decent yet. Everywhere we go, radiation tries to suffocate us and random fire-storms try to set us aflame, not to mention the aesthetics are lacking.

I am proud, though, of my tiny beginner's shack I'll never set foot in ever again.

We may not have found the perfect planet to call home yet, but at least, after much scavenging for things to make ALL the moneys, I have a flying road van attached to a warp tube to help me on the quest for Home Hunting.

Maybe later, if my connection treats me well, we'll be able to find the perfect paradise in which to build.
