I feel extremely happy writing about all of my favourite places from school days. If anyone from Dehradun, or anyone who has lived there, sees these reviews, I'm sure they'll be overwhelmed with nostalgia and start salivating. 

The buffet shop is located a kilometer away from Clock Tower on Rajpur Road, near English Book Depot and opposite Gandhi Park. The look and the menu hasn't changed in 20 years and kudos to the place for keeping everything intact. 

You'll know it's a popular place as soon as you cross it. At any given time, the 2 tables inside and standing tables outside will be full with people enjoying coffee and food. 

Let's look at the place first -

As I said, anytime of the day you go, it'll be like this.

We asked for the menu but one of the waiting staff recited the menu to us. There are limited options and we ordered almost all. 

Since the place is open, with standing tables, you'll be bothered by beggers. We asked 2 young boys, who were begging for money, to join us for lunch. I ordered 4 cold coffees,  one veg sandwich, two veg burgers, and a bread roll. 

Sandwich is done in white bread and filled with  coleslaw like filling -

Bread roll is a thing of beauty. The bread is immeresed in water, then squeezed, and filled with potato mash. It is then deep fried to look like this -

Vegetable Burger is a lovechild between a local street food called bun tikki and a western veg burger. The burger bun was a little crisp on the outside, and patty inside deep fried spicy potato mash patty -

Cold coffee was sweet and delish -

Food was top notch but not complicated and we were given limited options If you have a problem eating next to a busy street, then this is not the place for you. However, if you want to stop your car on the side, and have some coffee and snacks during a quick stop, then you'll love The Buffet. 

The food cost us under 300 INR, $3.5 or thereabouts. 

Rating the place 4 on 5, for limited menu and overall look, food 4 on 5 as well. Scale is 1 to 5, 5 being best.
