Jewel Panipuri Center review - India's top street food (Panipuri) at Jewel

If there is one street food that I enjoy probably everyday,  it is Pani Puri. It is my go to street food because it's light, full of spices, can be the least fried and sugar loaded option and is perfect taste wise. 

The place I'm reviewing is Jewel Panipuri Center in Hiranandani, near Central Avenue. 

The place is located on a side street from the roudabout in Central Avenue and can be located easily. I went there yesterday to meet a friend and decided to enjoy some Pani Puri before leaving.

Just an explanation of what this snack is before I move on to my review. 

Its puffed up flour balls. The puffed up aspect comes from mixing soda in the flour. The dough can be semolina or wheat flour based. The balls are filled with either potato mash, or green lentil or pea curry. Then the balls are filled with sweet and spicy water. The spices are usually those that aid in digestion. The sweetness comes from a sweet and sour tamarind chutney. 

In Mumbai these usually cost $0.25 for 6 pieces, that's street price. 

I went for the option of pea curry and spicy water.

The filling was perfectly cooked and wasn't too warm, and I like it like that. It was also not too watery. 

The balls were wheat flour based and thus lighter and crispier and the spice water was also not too hot. It focussed more on cumin, coriander seeds, asafetida and therefore it was a great combination. The salt levels were also low, so I did feel the snack was on the healthier side. 

Cost was INR 30 for 6, and a non water puri in the end, to soften the impact of spices in the end.

If you're in Bombay, do try panipuri. If you also happen to be in Hiranandani, do visit this place. It is a great after meal food or an appetizer pre meal and Jewel Panipuri Center does it very well.
