After months of debating between all parties it is finally there! A new collective employment agreement (CEA) for the workers in the hospitals. But damnnnn, why do we always need to end up being in strike to get somewhere.

And in this case I don't only mean why we always have to end up there, I don't mean just hospital staff, I mean also staff of the public transport, staff of the garbage guys. It feels like this is a current super hot topic with the cost of living have gone up so much in the last couple of months.

So the new terms come up with a 5% raise now, a 5% raise in december, and a 5% raise in 2024 as the most important one. But another part that is not highlighted that much is the reward for on call shifts. Because before the latest negotiations the contra parties were negotiating about not giving an extra damn for working night shifts, even though there is a lot being said about how bad working nights is for you.

That would have meant that 12 hour night shift would have had ZERO compansation for it next to normal hours which feels really wrong. As we always see, you need to give people an incentive to work nights, because otherwise no one will feel the need to. With at least a financial driven compensation....that is something.

After the initial covid bounce on people who wanted to help we see now that the numbers of students in nursing are declining. I'm not surprised to be honest because with all of the debates about underpaying staff an the strike that came with that...well that is not exactly great promo material for the sector I would say.

So yeah, with declining numbers of new influx of staff....it is good that at least something is done about the financial compensation for the hospital staff. Who knows...it might just do something.

Honestly...striking sucks. It feels like you are letting the patients down and the waiting lists are not exactly gone after the last couple of years. And that is why it is so stupid that *always* there has to be striked before some action comes into play. Same as with the garbage staff....It sucks that at first weeks the gargabe has to be there before eventually *something is done*

But in the end I am really happy that a second strike doesn't have to be done and we can go back on to our daily business. So let's celebrate the wins and hope it will be enough to attract more hospital workers because we will be needing them over the next couple of years!
