The king's Antechamber and the king's bedroom at the Wilanow Palace. Did you know that the king received guests while lying in bed? / Antykamera i sypialnia króla w Pałacu w Wilanowie. Wiedzieliście, że król przyjmował gości leżąc w łóżku?

I'm coming back to the royal interiors at the Wilanow Palace. In this post, I'll show you the Antechamber and bedroom of King Jan III Sobieski. I will also write a little about the customs of this ruler.

*Wracam do królewskich wnętrz w Pałacu Wilanowie. W tym poście pokażę wam antykamerę i sypialnię króla Jana III Sobieskiego. Napiszę też trochę o zwyczajach tego władcy.*

>The Antechamber served as a representative hall, where courtiers waited for an audience with the King. In accordance with Baroque customs, such meetings were often held in a camera, i.e. in the King's Bedroom. During the audience, the King would lie in the ceremonial bed while the visitors remained standing. Only the closest family and the most distinguished guests were permitted to sit in the company of the ruler.

>Antykamera pełniła funkcję reprezentacyjnego przedpokoju, w którym dworzanie oczekiwali na rozmowę z królem. Zgodnie z obyczajowością baroku takie spotkania często odbywały się w kamerze, czyli w Sypialni króla. W trakcie audiencji król leżał w łożu paradnym, podczas gdy odwiedzający stali. Tylko najbliższa rodzina i najznamienitsi goście mogli usiąść w towarzystwie władcy.

It is a bust of Jan Heweliusz, a Polish astronomer, mathematician and constructor of scientific instruments.

Right next to it is the incredibly beautiful king's bedroom. I was delighted with its appearance - elegance and splendor. Both the wonderful bed, from which the king received guests, and the painting on the ceiling - entitled "Summer", painted by Jerzy Eleuter Szymonowicz Siemiginowski.

*Tuż obok znajduje się niesamowicie piękna sypialnia króla. Zachwycił mnie jej wygląd - elegancja, przepych. Zarówno cudowne łóżko, z którego król podejmował gości, jak i malowidło na suficie - pt. "Lato" namalowane przez Jerzego Eleutera Szymonowicza Siemiginowskiego.*

And also baroque sculptures under the ceiling, gilding (picture frames, furniture, as well as a huge golden mirror). The whole thing looked amazing.

*A także barokowe rzeźby pod sufitem, złocenia (ramy obrazów, meble, a także ogromne złote lustro). Całość prezentowała się niesamowicie.*

I just think that some royal customs are cool and it is a lot to learn various curiosities while visiting such places. I've always liked the four-poster beds and these plumes above the king's bed are an additional interesting element of the interior. I also really like the wallpaper that refers to the natural world.

*Tak sobie myślę, że fajne są niektóre królewskie zwyczaje i dużo daje dowiadywanie się różnych ciekawostek podczas zwiedzania takich miejsc. Zawsze podobały mi się łóżka z baldachimami, a te pióropusze nad łózkiem króla to dodatkowy interesujący element wnętrza. Bardzo podoba mi się też tapeta, która nawiązuje do świata natury.*

Kiedyś, odkurzając stiuki z wysokiej drabiny w Wielkiej Sieni, która przylega do Sypialni Króla, mało nie spadłem kiedy drabina wychyliła się niebezpiecznie w bok. Na szczęście wróciła do poprzedniej pozycji jakoś ocalałem ;)
