When i want to see deep down what type of a person someone is, i always keep in mind the quote: "A person's environment is a reflection of who he is." Ive noticed that its actually true. I have an officemate before that his desk is always cluttered. Lots of crumpled paper here and there. His things are very disorganized. And guess what? His quality of work clearly refects with his work environment. He almost always submit his work either full of mistakes or totally disorganized to the point that he has to do it over again. So true, I dated a guy who hid things from me. It was excuse after excuse, because he was a bit of a coward. He would lie, say he was sick and couldn't come to my sister's new year's do, next thing, he's out with friends at a party, while I was trying to bring him some soup and herbs for his cold and congestion. I stayed with the guy quite a while, but I never trusted him.

This is why when I met my husband, we needed to have trust, we needed honesty, we were both at that stage. If he forgets, I remind him of things he said he'd do and vice versa, but when it came to our commitment, when we committed, it was for keeps and it was real. As much as the little things had shown distrust with my previous partner, things that I chose to ignore, there were little things here that showed this new guy was a keeper. After 6.5 years, we've learnt so much. I can recognise those signs in my husband when I KNOW he'll forget something again and that he's not trying to forget, so we I know what to do to help him remember. Honesty and we don't get on each other's nerves...as much. But it's more mundane, when it comes to emotions and the relationship, the signs were there that my husband would be there for me and love me for the rest of our lives. Those good signs also can't be ignored, otherwise we might miss something amazing and latch on to something crappy.

I think a lot of us are brought up to not be "difficult" people, which to many means not pointing out "annoying little things" with the justification that we can "deal with it." But it's like sand running into an hourglass... it "becomes something," after a while.

I remember a friend of my dad's telling me *"Don't TELL me who you are, SHOW me."* In retrospect, seems very appropriate.

All this comes from your childhood  how your parents have taught you to do stuff and generally have raised you as a human being.

Absolutely 100% true. If you practice how to pay attention to detail, and focus on what you do while doing anything - it should spill over and begin to spread throughout the rest of your life.

This is all too familiar, my last few ex's and dates always said one thing, but they did the complete opposite or were never what they made out to be.

People in general have that tendency to be particularly untrue with their words, like they have their fingers crossed behind their back in that traditional lie and hope to not be caught out.

You are definitely right, focus on their actions and whether or not they backup their words! :)
