1- The best place to study
In the first place we have to make a simple aspect clear. Each person is unique and particular, and the same advice is not good for everyone. Hence, when looking for the best place to study depends on yourself and your way of concentrating . Some people, for example, need to be in a library surrounded by an atmosphere of concentration and study. Others, however, prefer to be in their room or even on the couch at home. There are those who need silence and others in exchange, they concentrate better with some music or even with the so-called "white noise", a singular sound that according to several studies serves to relax.
But as we say, there is "no ideal place" to study, it depends on your personality and the need to be clear from the beginning.
2- A little order
Once established in which place we concentrate better to study, put order. If you are at your desk it is not recommended that you have stacks of messy notes, empty cans of Coca-Cola mixed with the phone charger and phosphorescent markers. Remember that the brain needs a visual balance to focus its attention on a point, in this case in our notes to study. Nor is it necessary to empty the table completely. Only what is just and necessary. And, yes, hide and silence the phone, do not be aware of the messages or updates of your social networks.
3- Your level of attention is limited
You must know, our level of attention has an average duration of between 35 and 45 minutes , beyond this time suffer a fall and what you read or study will not settle with the same intensity. What does this mean? It is time to pause, but a brief pause of 10 or 15 minutes. Drink something, like a natural juice full of antioxidants, go to the bathroom, play with your pet or go out and talk a little with a friend. This small rest relaxes nerves, free your mind to resume with strength study again.
4- The memory curve
Let's say that you listen to us and that you establish 40-minute study sessions, for example. Our brain will then remember with more intensity the first and last thing you have studied, is the so-called primacy effect and recency effect. That is why it is advisable that when you return to the study in the next session, you start with the subject you studied between the first and last 15 minutes.
5- Is it good to give us the last minute "sitting"?
We have all done it. Before an exam we almost always give the night session the day before the exam. But is it convenient? It is not, although in many cases we save the moment. Most of the time these last-minute sessions make what we study last very little in our mind, may save you the test, but days later you have forgotten almost everything. It is advisable to study a little each day. In this way, our neurons establish stronger and longer lasting connections and learning is deeper. Although, as we have told you, in memory the primacy and recency effect prevails a lot, so what you studied the day before will serve you for the next day, only if you have not died of exhaustion.
6- A good scheme
Memory remembers drawings better than words. Surely the following has happened to you, before an exam question you remember more the drawing you had in the book or the place where you studied that topic, than the answer itself. The brain usually saves a lot of the information it keeps, hence the need to make outlines, summaries .. the shorter and illustrative the better. So do not hesitate to elaborate your own memory strategies and even word games.
7- Yes to the colors in the notes
The colors, the drawings ... all act as signals that are meaningful to the brain. Get used to underlining the important terms , to highlight the most relevant information. Those little signals are very good for our brain.
8- Learn to plan
The ideal is to study a little each day, starting and ending always with the subjects that we like least or that cost us the most. Try to organize your agenda and comply with it, it is a very effective way to optimize your studies to the maximum.
9- Some sport
When you are studying, do not hesitate to take a break to go running, walking, playing basketball, swimming or cycling. It releases stress , relieves tension and relaxes us. You will return to the books with much more desire.
10- A positive attitude
Leave aside the classic phrase "I'm so bad at math that I'm going to suspend insurance" or the typical ones: "This subject I'm not going to approve because the teacher has a hobby" and "This topic I will never understand". All these verbalizations will eventually determine the result of the exam and what is worse, you will have encouraged it. Avoid saying or thinking the word "no". Be optimistic, think you have the ability and the same possibilities of any other to pass and get good grades. All up to you. We tried?
