Let's just dive right in!\n\nWhat you see right there is the \"voting weight slider\", a tool that many users have access to on Steemit.com. What this slider allows one to do is to decide how much of their voting power is used on any particular vote, thus allowing more flexibility in reward-giving, more votes per day, and a feeling of more \"control\" over your investment. With tools like SteemWorld & SteemNow, you can actually see exactly how much your vote will add to the payout of a post, based on your total SteemPower and current Voting Power.\n\nUnlocking the slider for your account is one of the many parts of Steemit that most folks don't seem to find that easily, so here we go. Your voting weight slider is automatically added to your account's user interface as soon as you reach 1 million vests (1 MVest). Simple right? Oh wait, most people have never heard of vests... so let's move on to part 2.\n\nWhat is a Vest?\n\nWhen you look at your Steemit wallet, you see a number called \"Steem Power\"... Well, there actually is no such thing as Steem Power, it's not a coin that you're holding. What you actually have are \"vests\" (voting shares in the STEEM blockchain), and the front-end sites are showing you a calculation of how much STEEM your vests are currently worth.\n\nThe Vests/SP calculation is actually part of the distribution of new STEEM, and a way to protect users' investments in the platform against inflation. The number of vests you have stays the same (assuming you're not powering up/down, or earning rewards), but that same number of vests is worth an ever-increasing amount of STEEM. To find the current rate of STEEM/Mvest, you can check this page.
