Taking my dungarees for a bike ride, or part II and final part of the dungaree project

**I finally did it!**

I took my dungarees for the long-awaited bike ride through the fields. It wasn’t as romantic as I had imagined, during the whole sewing process, though. The afternoon sun was burning hot, when a tractor and some trailers blocked my way on the narrow street, I was taking. I realized they were actually harvesting the wheat that day… what a coincidence. Little chance I had, to find my perfect scene of red dungarees on a bike next to wheat and coquelicot fields, as I described them in my previous post.

Nevertheless, I finished the trousers, and I am very happy about that. I guess even if I was too late to encounter the scene, I made those dungarees for, I can still wear them in plenty of other situations… lol

Now how did it go? 

As most of the times I got surprised for the good and the bad.

First, to assess the situation, I still had the same sketch in mind that I made from the beginning, apart from the pockets. I still like the fabric:) and I am still convinced by the dungarees.

I almost finished the trousers-part of the dungarees and thought to have the toughest part behind me with that. I was wrong.

As I described in my previous post about [the idea](https://hive.blog/hive-127911/@kesityu.fashion/fashion-on-the-road-or) and about [the process](https://hive.blog/hive-127911/@kesityu.fashion/the-process-of-designing-and), (and as you can see in the sketch above) I intended to create some sort of opening at the back of the trousers, a kind of wrap-system. 

Now an opening at the back might also be very unpractical, since being exposed is not really the purpose of being dressed… That’s why I came up with the idea to fit in little triangles, to have more fabric and through that less probability to open randomly.

I was really pleased with the look of it! I must say I will definitely keep this idea for another trousers-project. For this one, unfortunately, the triangles made the trousers way too big and loose for me. And not sitting in place at all anymore.

Which sadly brought me to undo all the stitches of my glamours idea…

After that I figured out that there was indeed enough fabric there anyway and no need to add anything. 

Furthermore I made lots of stripes...

I thought adding the top part would be super easy. I mean it is basically “just” a square?, or triangle? That’s where it started… What shape is the top even supposed to have?

Coping from the original dungarees didn’t work because as it does happen to me very often, I get carried away with some extra ideas, which make the original simple project a mission and far of the garment I got inspired by.

(I do intend to copy those original dungarees one-to-one soon, to see if I even manage such a thing lol)

First, I tried to make the top part big enough so you could wear it with nothing underneath. Turned out impossible. Therefore, I just went completely random. Half coping from the blue dungarees, half improvising.

At that stage I was getting really impatient, pressing the pedal of the sewing machine as if I was driving a racing car, hoping that finishing fast would solve all the problems... hahah

…surprisingly it worked out, luckily. I guess otherwise this project would have ended up straight in the bag of shame. It didn’t.

Nevertheless, one of these days I might add some more stitches in a few places or ad a pocket at the front, I am super happy with the dungarees! They turned out way more elegant than I expected. But that’s another cool thing about any sort of clothing, to be comfortable, easy and elegant at the same time.

The good thing about sewing is being able to get out of the initial plan, because although there is a high probability of failing, we can also obtain good results.
