I watched TechLead for years, he could be a true addiction to Steem. 
I think a main concern is the lack of middle-class users as I discussed in my last post, there are only 2.5K users with 5K+ SP in holdings.
That's extremely low.

People do not want to get a stake invested in STEEM and just take out every small amount they can from low quality post of a single photo, as you said, exploiting the reward system.

There is also the "etiquette" where downvoting is considered bad, while I think it's a great method to avoid an unfair distribution of rewards towards spam and plagiarism.

Thanks a lot for introducing me to a whole new YouTuber with a fresh perspective. I'm totally going to be watching his videos whether they show up on DTube or not.  You have a great eye for selecting good content creators and if TechLead is right, STEEM could become the best blockchain project to be on. 

We not only have a place for content creation we also have a place for a lot of DAPPs which I really enjoy (basically the games) The games provide a great social angle to everything  hooking up people even better like Google services which keep you stuck in in the same ecosystem. I'm feeling glad about my life choices.

BTW I also see potential in link sharing such as DLike which could become more relevant as content economy grow real fast.

Maybe youTube is indeed the next App, the next big thing. This techlead guy certainly has a coherent vlog about the why. True that many youngsters are trying to get somewhere with vlogging. It is also a fact that only a few will be able to make real money from it. It is like with everything, only the small top of a large pyramid will be able to earn a living from the activities rewarded in that pyramid.

This maybe the same in crypto based / reward based social networks. At least in the setup Steemit has chosen. Maybe Steemit shows us some proof an all-purpose blogging network doesn't work, at least not when money is involved. Maybe when Steemit was there a few decades ago, it had a chance to grow; Today youngsters don't read and write anymore, or at least, they consume video and short content over audio, writing and large content.

Maybe Steemit is an experiment that shall be discontinued. Steem shall be distributed in a different way; Maybe the distribution algorithms at the Steemblockchain shall be changed dramatically, remove the upvote from the algorithms, reward only the App builders; or maybe Steem shall simply be distributed equally to all accounts.

Fact is, even with the existence of a few curation groups like curie and ocd, quality written content doesn't get rewarded anymore (I dont necessarily talk about long form post, short(er) form can also have quality elements); These curation groups reward more and more video content as well, something Steemit is not designed for. This seems to me the whole thing may collapse at some point in time. It's a shame, but this may be a more realistic view than thinking a monetary rewarded blogging network can work.

Indeed that would be a welcome addition to have @techlead.  Let's make it happen!

Hey Kev, don't be depressed over the pile of shit that Steemit became with the bad economics in place and most people pumping out shit content begging for upvote and the ones who made it to the top just renting out their SP. All we can do is continue creating good shit and motivating others to do the same, while pointing out the shortcomings.

Agreed with bringing techlead to Steem but we need those dtube upgrades to onboard more youtubers. Something really needs to change, Steem used to be top in transactions 1 year ago in blocktivity, now everyone else dwarfs us.

I'm all for trying out different things and tweaking various parameters every which way possible to see which model would work best for content discovery and rewards - and for that we need all those coins and other second tier stuff. We can campaign all day long for this change or that change in the reward distribution rules on the blockchain level. But any changes to the blockchain are painfully difficult to agree on and implement - as they should be to an extent. We don't even have to wait for SMTs because we have Steem-Engine. Coins with any distribution rules can be created and even price discovery can be arranged by having them listed on the Steem Engine DEX at the very least. We already have the tools to trying stuff out.

I love techlead and it would be cool to see him on Steem, but I feel like currently we don't have much to offer someone who is doing well on Youtube and already has a large following. When other big youtubers have come here, they initially get some support, then it dies off as people get back into their normal routines of figuring out ways to earn themselves more.

I've written about my proposed solution to this problem at length [here](https://steemit.com/steem/@midlet/this-is-how-we-save-steem), but here's some bullet points.

Steem has really great "features" to empower content creators, but a terrible user experience design for it. I'm currently in the process of finishing up a post talking more about that.

Donations, upvotes, delegation and beneficiaries are all the ways one user can support another, but the only one impressed upon users is upvotes, and upvotes have a huge barrier to entry to actually be able to offer any support for the vast majority of users.

I feel like Steemit was designed more as a tech demo, vs a user centered, solution for a particular demographic. The following frontends largely followed suit with little upgrades here and there, but nothing focused around the user, the users goals, the users tasks, and how to make these frictionless and pleasant user experiences. THIS is the main issue with Steem. All the developers want to throw more apps at the problem, throw more tech at the problem, but that's not what's needed most. What's needed most is an analysis of what a typical user on Steem is looking for, and what they're going to be trying to do, and what they're going to be expecting. We need to deliver that to them so that they come away feeling like, that was fun/easy/powerful/exciting/etc. Instead of our current UX which 100% of the time leaves users feeling like that was too hard/frustrating/disconnected/boring/pointless.

Interesting blog and some very interesting and informative comments as well. I agree content rewards changes would be very helpful for the platform. I also think that while it would be wonderful to have Techlead here, I hope he would just post his YouTube material to get the channel going and not be to disappointed with the rewards system which makes it hard to get the attention of people whose Steem Power makes writing worthwhile. I confess to oscillating between writing thoughtful pieces which go largely un-noticed to just producing volume to earn some Steem. This platform is a wonderful opportunity, but pretty hard for a newbie to make enough to feel like it’s worthwhile. If I didn’t have a vision of what this project may become in the future I might have left long before my recent one year birthday. Call me an optimist, but I still think this blockchain and platform have so many positives compared to the other projects I invested in that I plan on staying for the duration. I hope I am not here to turn out the lights, but I am willing to stay until the literal end.
