A few years ago, I would have never imagined asking myself this question, because well, I spent my whole life being scared of animals and my family wasn't the most “animal friendly”, which made me lack compassion for animals.

For the longest time, whenever I saw a dog or a cat, all I could relate it to was fear, that they are going to hurt me or they are witches; yes, the Nigerian society often considered cats as witches.

Anyways, you would think growing up would make things better but, I grew up and that fear turned to staying away, while most people would awe at pictures of dogs, I would swipe as fast as I could because well, I don't know; it was probably an excuse not to get closer.

I could remember the first time I actually got closer to a dog, his name was Rocky and he was the cutest, I didn't exactly care for his breed or any of those, all I knew was that I fell in love with a pup and watched him grow.

I wish the story with rocky was a happy ending but it wasn't and he passed on breaking my heart and making me detach again from animals; I made a promise never to get close.

Well, that promise got broken when I made friends, got close to them, and started going to their homes, they were animal people and they had about 5 dogs and a cat.

I didn't plan on getting close but, I did and I began enjoying the idea of a pet, especially more now that their dogs gave birth to puppies and they are the cutest.

The problem is that there is often a fear of caring for something, it is the same reason I consider not having children; I want to keep everyone safe and I have the fear of loss which originated from my father's death.

I still feel like I have so much love to give and for a while now, all I have wanted is a puppy or a small dog; I have a preference for terriers, I know that I will be amazing with a pet but, I don't know.

What I do know now is that even though I don't get a pet asap, I will one day because I do have love to give, and having a small puppy to give that to is more my speed right now.

**Anyways what do you think though and do you have any advice?**
