[Image Credit](https://pxhere.com/en/photo/829797 ) Having internet on the cell phone has become very common these days . We not only surf the net but we also want to make video calls and watch live broadcasts at the highest possible speed (and without interruptions). The first mobile phones were only used to make calls and send text messages. They were analog phones of the first generation (1G) , which saw the world in the 1980s. Ten years later the 2Gs would arrive , which would make possible the great jump to the Internet the so-called "digital telephony". The users demanded more speeds. And in search for the ultra-fast connection, 4G mobile telephony was born. But how 4G is different from 3G and GPRS? And what is the Meaning of the letters E and H that sometimes appear on your cell phone screen ? * # GSM vs GPRS GSM stands for Global System for Mobile communications and it is a type of network used for voice and data transmission. It is the digital mobile technology used in the world and is available in a wide variety of phones But its bandwidth is slow and can sometimes cause electronic interference. GPRS stands for General Packet Radio Service(general packet service via radio) and it is an enhanced GSM extension . It allows instant messaging, short message (SMS) and multimedia (MMS) and email services and that we are "always connected", among other things. It provides complete wireless coverage and transfer speeds between 56 to 114 kbps (kilobits per second). For example, it allows us to send 30 SMS per minute , while with GSM we can send between 6 and 10. But it is not the fastest. As explained by the specialists of the publication PC Advisor , the GPRS would be equivalent to asking your old neighbor to send your mail. * # EDGE or EGPRS, an enhanced GPRS When the letter E appears on your cell phone screen, it means that your Network is connected to the EDGE service or EGPRS , an acronym in English is Enhanced Data Rates for GSM (improved data rates for the evolution of GSM) or Enhanced GPRS. It can reach speeds of up to 384 kbps and receive heavy mobile data , such as large e-mail attachments or browse complex web pages at high speed. EDGE technology acts as a bridge between 2G and 3G networks and can work in any network with GPRS and has been updated through the activation of an optional software. If you cannot connect to 3G, connect to this network and navigate faster. It means when your cell phone connects to this network it is because it does not have access to 3G or 4G. But, in any case, the connection is much faster than the GPRS. In this case, who delivered the mail would be the grandson of your neighbor. Without a doubt, much faster and with more energy. * # 3G: a great leap to reduce the gap The aim of 3G was to facilitate the transfer of multimedia files, permanent wireless connectivity and a speed up to seven times faster than the standard telephone connection. It also offers more stability and security for the user than the 2G, which used GSM transmission. It is more sophisticated than EDGE technology and is an improvement over it. You can load a complex web in 10 seconds , doubling or even tripling the speed of EDGE. Indeed, with the arrival of 3G the transmission speed took a great leap, reaching speeds of up to 2 mbps ( megabits per second) . But new advances would soon arrive that would allow, above all, an even greater speed of navigation. * # H and H +: ultra-fast 3G When an H appears on our screens, it means that we are connected to an HSDPA network or High Speed Downlink Packet Access. This type of connection is also known as 3.5G, 3G + or Turbo3G and can reach speeds of 14 mbps in optimal conditions. in short it is an optimization of UMTS technology using 3G and evolution of it, without reaching the fastest speed so far, which would be the 4G. * # 4G or LTE: speed and quality The 4G technology also called LTE is the fastest developed to date. The 4G connection is based on the convergence of wireless networks and cables. According to the mobile telephony operator, 4G connections maintain a high security service quality that allows us to offer services of any kind at any time, anywhere, at the lowest possible cost. This type of connection is equivalent to the ADSL of a fixed line in a home. And it is between five and 10 times faster than 3G , making it more difficult for you to "fall" your Internet connection. In this case, it would be equivalent to hiring a fast courier service to send your mail. * # 5G: the future is here The 5G network is the future, but companies like Samsung and other technological giants are already developing it. It is expected to reach speeds of up to 1 gigab it per second . And that would make it no less than 100 times faster than 4G. If this becomes a reality, we can download movies on our computer in just a second.

companies like Nokia are already developing the 5G network and it is expected to hit the market by 2020. Infact, Vodafone has already started trial on the tech. Thanks anyway for the breakdown you've provided.

Hi @khalidjr11! The post was good but kindly look at the guidelines @chloroform mentioned in the comment and do the necessary corrections. Moreover, I just want to share some information related to this article is that 4G is a very good and quite reliable technology. But, Telenor in collaboration with Huawei has completed its 5G Technology in-lab testing few months back. The next step will be taken by them will be testing the 5G speed in a practical environment, since the earlier test was totally lab controlled. Compared to 3G and 4G in 5G we will going to see a great difference in the data rate. If we talk about 5G, the speed we will going to notice here will be around 70 Gbps. The main thing to note here is the laptops/gadgets/mobiles that we use at present is not ready to support 5G speed because of their hardware design. Suppose if you somehow able to download any file from the internet in 5G speed then also the files will not be stored in your device because the hard-drives that are connected to our device is capable of writing in a much lower speed than that of 5G data rate speed. It was a pleasure reading your post!! :) Cheers! ;)
