Anyone Else Excited About the SpaceX Crew Dragon Launch?

Within the next 24 hours we'll see the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft launched with humans on board. This is quite a unique time as the United States (publicly) haven't had the ability to put people into space since the Space Shuttles were shut down around 2011. The Crew Dragon seats up to 7 astronauts and is roughly 37 meters cubed volume wise in the crew compartment. Video below explains more.

Hopefully everything goes well tomorrow with this launch and the astronauts and spacecraft are returned to earth safely after their mission.  While currently don't have a link to where the launch and mission will be streamed some time tomorrow when it is available I'll put a post up here on HIVE so we can collectively watch history being made together. After a so far shitshow of a year the succesful launch will be a welcome change of pace. Certainly exciting times for sure, this will open up space trave to the laymen.

The twin landings of the heavy's boosters were crazy.
When they get around to finishing BFR that will be a site!

I think for now, the rockets will only be reused for cargo missions and not crew missions, but the tech was definitely game changing.

I am super stoked. Bout damned time the shuttle is replaced. 

I remember as a kid, the first shuttle to land after the Challenger exploded landed at Edwards Air Force Base. My parents and I drove down and lined up with hundreds of thousands of others along the fence along the landing strip. People all around were crying and cheering and super excited. 

I am thinking there is going to be a similar feeling around this launch, maybe not quite as poignant, but still a major step forward.

I remember bagging school to watch the Challenger the day it blew up. There was just something about that launch that I had to watch. I think I literally ran to school to tell everyone. Was a total shock.

It was killer. My dad had his 35mm hooked up to his 1000mm spotting scope and got some seriously amazing pictures as the shuttle plummeted to the landing. It made these really small tight circles during descent then a slightly larger one right before lining up the runway. I need to find out where those pics are, if my mom or dad has them, but I took them to school after he developed them (I just remembered I was in 5th grade) and showed the whole school. 

It was crazy looking up and down the line of people. I stood on the roof of the car and I could just see cars, campers, & people as far as I could see. It was an amazingly huge number of people to watch a 5 minute event. It took us like 4 hours to get out to the highway home in an insane line of traffic.

Interesting time to be alive. Generally get chills down my neck when I watch the SpaceX launches. Kind of wild to think with in out lifetimes we might be able to go to another planet to set up a colony.

Oh, soooo excited. I literally just posted an hour ago about how excited I was about watching it. The tech is so bloody cool. 

You can stream it from NASA TV or directly from the SpaceX site.
