Bitmain's Server Infrastructure Hacked, Possible User Data Theft! Change Your Passwords Folks!

Bitmain announced this morning that their systems had been compromised by an unknown party, stemming fears that user data such as emails and passwords may have been attained by the hackers. It's been advised that any user on their sites change their account password immediately to protect against unauthorized entry and funds being stolen.

Since the launch of the Bitmain S1 miners a few years back the company has grown to become the imdustry leader in ASIC Bitcoin mining gear. It's not completely known at this time what the hackers were targeting or what exactly they got their hands on.

With so many hacks happening, a major concern for all first time entrants is security of their digital assets in the crypto world. The steps involved in properly securing ones' information is not something that can be adopted by non technical users......anyone know if there is some work ongoing to make the security part simple??

Most hackers are now on the hunt for some cryptocurrencies after the success of the recent ransomeware. What a crazy world we live in @klye. As good as crypto is, some evil people want to give it a bad name.

No, IMHO it is nothing like this. They do not want to give it bad name. They couldn't care less about it. They are on the hunt for money, like almost everyone, like me or probably you for example. It is a detail that they do not choose to earn them with honest work but to steal them - because it is so damn easy. Because people, because we are so easy to rob. It is an another detail that they prefer to use cryptocurrencies - modern money that is relatively easy to get away with.

Look deeper. There were a lot other ransomware attacks in past that made a freaking LOT of money before. Those attacks wasn't so intensive like for example recent WannaCrypt attack,  which got a lot of mainstream media attention but collected ridiculous low ransoms (it is blockchain technology, anyone who knows wallet address - the one the ransom message was giving, can check how much people had paid). The latest (publicly known) attack of NotPetya ransomware that hit mostly some European countries, especially Ukraine - most probably was political (cyberwar) attack in disguise. And as far as I know didn't earn anything for their authors (at least in ransoms).
