https://steemit.com/steemit/@penguinpablo/daily-steem-stats-report-thursday-may-23-2019 If you follow the report of @penguinpablo you may have noticed that over the last year or so, the amount of activity on steem has been fairly steady. There have been between 40-50k accounts active on daily basis. Additionally there are constantly new signups. This basically means that we have quite a bit of retention issue, since new users do show up, but the overall activity level stays the same. This must mean that either there is somewhat of a core user group that just stays here and is loyal, or we have a huge retention issue. My guess is, this has to do with the reward structure and the fact that new users get little use from steem, without SP.

Well, i think so they face the Low RC issue which is not letting them use steemit. I personally know, 2 or 3 users who have left due to RC issues. It's really hard for new users to grow here.

Steem is in a unique position of trying to get investments from crypto users while also trying to onboard people on to crypto. If I buy 20k steem and delegate it all to a bot then never post a thing, I am hardly inactive in a bad way. If I have a plankton account and grow it to minnow taking advantage of handouts and good will for small fishes, then do it again and again, am I good for steem? There are certain limits and niches. Steem does some well amd fails in others. Posted using [Partiko Android](https://partiko.app/referral/abitcoinskeptic)

Last year, so many Chinese join steem. But the price of steem was too low. So they could not get any reward, and left. But, some previous chinese steemians are reactive and rejoining now. I guess and some people tell us. Steen is totally different than last year. It is not only a writer's social community. It must give a big thanks to most of Dapp Posted using [Partiko Android](https://partiko.app/referral/honoru)

In any endeavor reward requires work, many cannot work long and hard without immediate satisfaction. The old Steemit rewards were faster and greater accumulation, now it is too little for too many. Time is money... people will migrate and stay where they are rewarded for that time.

I think you hit the nail on the head. I believe STEEM and its platforms have a core base while a revolving door of new users come and go. I think the biggest issue for user retention is the lack of freedom RC gives new users. We as humans have become online social fanatics. Reducing ones ability to socialize on an online media outlet isn't something that makes a new user want to stick around. Another big issue is the rewards or lack of rewards that new users get for posting. I know lots like to claim that if one puts out good content it will get noticed but that simply isn't the case. I myself have been on Steem/Steemit for over a year and getting upvotes that come with any sort of value are like finding a needle in a hay stack. I was lucky enough to find ways to get notice with tools such as @steem-bounty and Steem related games like Steem-Monsters but new users may not stick around long enough to find out about these awesome features of the blockchain.

Unable? Unwilling to buy steem? To understand how it all works? Not seeing how low priced steem is and with 500 plus sp you can get a return just by voting and curation? Not taking a risk that an investment now does have good potential to grow. I bought steem at probably the worst time ever. I'm stubbornly working to break even. That being said i'm also used to making art and photography so i may as well continue posting. I also like many people here and enjoy contributing to them as much as i can. It would be great if crypto was much much much simpler so that millions of people could benefit. Yes perhaps i'm dreaming ; )
