If you follow blockchain news, you'll start to notice the emergence of articles by former advocates of open software that question open blockchains or open platforms. These are being published by "news outlets" that are actually themselves attempting to gain a foothold in the blockchain ecosystem by serving as public relations outlets. They offer to promote a proprietary innovation for free and then begin to charge by the posting. Some respected and skilled former open development advocates are now engaging in PR Campaigns for their own "products." This is a good sign. It means Ethereum and other open platforms are gaining traction.
As folks in the ecosystem develop proprietary platforms or services or blockchains, you'll notice that they offer critiques of open platforms and services and argue that these are difficult to integrate or less secure and so forth. In some instances, they are right over the short term. They have indeed innovated some improvements. They do have something to sell in the short term. But consider Linux and compare how it has grown and consolidated its place in the ecosystem of operating systems. Where should you put your effort and your support?
