Has Internet Created Madness in us all?

Screens are everywhere. Do we really enjoy any of it? Slow speeds, 404 errors, blocked content, Youtube ads, censorship, Why do we even do it? We need to, don’t we? I mean sure we need the connection the networking. We need to be able to email family, friends and clients. We need to except payments. Share photos track packages and map our next vacation. Do we, do we really need to?

The list of we need to is never ending. If we truly do need to. What are we missing out on? What is being passed over? What is it that we are not getting? We are not interacting with each other in person. In some cases we are not even leaving the house. Maybe we see the UPS driver when they drop off our Amazon Prime orders or the food we have delivered to our door. In 2018 we find love and create break hearts all at the swipe of a thumb. We bully and say things we might never say in real face to face conversations.

We don’t “need to”. Or do we? That is the question. We for sure live wrapped in a life of screen time vs real time. Does it give us time or does it take it away? In 2000 and the introduction of the smart phone has life gotten better? Has it really? We walk around with our faces in our phones. From very young to very old. We take photos of our coffee and post them on 5 different social networking sites before we even taste it. What would our grandmothers think? Maybe she sees that photo in her feed. We are short of sleep and more and more people are on their phones when they drive. Is it even safe anymore?

Not to many years ago the internet was something just a few had. We had it at home on a box in the corner of a dark room with that big fat screen plugged into it. Now it is every place we go. In fact almost every business has it and offers it for free to its costumers. We have it on airplanes. It is not enough that we get to travel hundreds of miles in a few short hours but we need to be connected up there too. Lets face it if we are connected we can earn money seem important. It makes us feel like we did something that day. Did we? Are did we waste time scrolling. We might find a news story that would have otherwise slipped by. We can follow and tweet to are favorite sports, movie or music celebrity. We have never been closer or have we?

How much more can we handle? Will net neutrality bring us more personal connection or will it break us apart? Will there come a day that we will feel the need live stream every event, every day life. From shopping to sleeping even eating our meals with a live audience?

What do you think? Are we going to be ok? Is this all going to change when Virtual reality - VR is all around us. When we put on glasses and travel to a ancient Rome. When we can see through the eyes of as a surgeon performs open heart surgery? Or when loved ones can be in the same room yet hundreds of miles a way when one of then is dyeing? Will it all keep getting better or only get worse? Love to read your input on this.

In my country Uganda, access to reliable internet is limited. The prices for internet bundles are too high for an average African to get connected(it's still a big challenge). We end up missing out a lot on internet.

You know, I think we'll be all right. It is a tremendous change for our culture - it's hard to remember what life before the internet was like, and I'm not even *that old.* Humans are adaptable. There'll be ups and downs and more change than we like, but we'll survive.

Still, it's important to disconnect and gather our thoughts in private once in a while. That's why I keep a few of these around:
