Last week, I was privileged to work on an amazing project with my friend and fashion stylist. The idea for the project is owned by my stylist. Apparently she had been planning the whole thing without my notice until it was time to shoot. As soon as she shared the moodboard, I knew it was a project I was going to love. I loved the photos from the session so much that I edited my best picks; the same day after the shoot. I have never been that fast in editing photos from personal projects. Coupled with the fact that my a lot of unfinished jobs were choking me. I vibed with the photos so much. Editing the photos under one day was quite easy to do for 2 major reasons; 1. I already had a preset that fit the photos perfectly 2. The model's skin was great, so less time was spent retouching. Speaking about the project itself "Bimbo's Hat shop" is an Afro fashion and lifestyle inspired project. We reflected that by styling the model in a native African dress, and her hairstyle. We also built a native African market setting. The market set we built was a shop owned by Bimbo, a hat seller, and "Halima" our model was at the shop to get some hats. We leveraged the opportunity to photograph Halima in Bimbo's hat stand. I'm sure you like them. Creating these photos was fun, however we were faced with some difficulties. First difficulty was the weather. It started to rain just as we were about to shoot. Fortunately, the rained rounded up on time, but we lost significant amount of sunlight. The second difficulty was the focal length of my lens. I basically shoot with an 85mm prime lens. And the area where my stylist built the set, it was hard to get full coverage of the area. I arrived at the scene late before the error could have been correct. Well, as you can see from the photos, the unfortunate events didn't stop us from achieving amazing images.
