Photography Contest - Macro Theme - The Little Millipede.
### <center> *On my walk the other day and I came across this little baby Millipede, I almost stepped on him they normally don't venture out onto the pathway but this little fella was a bit lost. I decided to test out my new smartphone on this little fella by trying some macro photography as this new smartphone of my has a special automatic zoom in for macro-photography. I had tested it out on flowers last week and it did quite a amazing job but with moving objects as the Millipede it wasn't as easy but tried my best and managed to get a couple shots that may be passable for this contest I hope.*

#### The reason why these photos are a little blurry is because he wouldn't stay still he was like a bullet train on wheels. I was putting my phone to the ground in his pathway but he was moving towards my camera so fast with all them little legs, that the camera wasn't having enough time to zoom and focus in on him.

#### I placed a dry leaf in front of him, in hope to slow him down a bit so I could get a better shot but that hurdle didn't bother him at all he just raced over that hurdle 🤣

#### Millipedes, unlike Centipedes, are not venomous but if touched or been threatened by another predator they give out a foul smelling fluid from the side of there body glands, discourage the predators from eating them. But be aware although a Centipede is not venomous it can give you a nasty sting causing pain, swelling and redness lasting up to 48 hours.

#### The difference between an Millipedes and an Centipedes is the Millipedes have there many legs tucked directly under there body and have a more rounded body whereas the Centipedes there many legs are spread out away from there body and have an flatter looking body and get this, Millipedes grow in the range from about 0.12 inches (0.32 cm) to around 10.5 inches (27 cm) long and grow up to 750 legs, that would be faster then a bullet train, but this little fella was only about ( 0.15cm) long just a baby and already quick of the make like a little bullet train.

Reasonably big ones found here some are black with red legs, others more red with black legs always fascinating to watch them move all those legs getting mobile.

Centipedes another critter that comes out especially after lots of rainfall, not one I would fancy standing on, as you say a sting to remember!

The large millipedes we have are referred to by locals as a Shongololo about 140 mm in length.
