I have had a few police interviews about incidents before. One was in Japan, and the other was in Australia. Recently, I had another police interview. I always feel very tense during police interviews, even though I didn't do anything wrong.

In Australia, I was very nervous. When I was robbed, I underwent a serious interrogation as a victim. Two robbers had a gun (probably real) and a stun gun, so I needed to report it seriously. Unfortunately, they couldn't find the two suspects. I had to go in the police car and check the suspects' faces from the car after the lengthy interview. However, they turned out to be just drunk old guys, not the gang who threatened me and stole my wallet and phone. Luckily, I was safe and didn't lose my passport but lost my Japanese driving license, credit card, bank card, money, and more.

This time, the police just dropped by my house while I was doing my online lesson. I was sitting next to the window, so I noticed that the police wanted to ask me something. I told my students to wait for a while as they were practicing writing.

The police officer was very tall and big. His height was almost the same as my front door. He gently asked me about our neighbour's abandoned house. I immediately noticed the specific house because I didn't like the energy of the abandoned house.

The police wanted to know about a few things. I had super anxiety originally, but I was trying to be honest and finish as quickly as possible for my students. The police also tried to finish questioning me as quickly as they could after I told them that I was working at that time.

My husband went out with our dog at that time, but he bumped into the police outside after my interview. He was surprised by the police car and thought something was happening to me. The police told him more details about why he was interviewing us. There was a thief who was stealing materials from the abandoned house. After my lesson, I still felt a bit nervous about that story.

Let me tell you a little more about the abandoned house. It sits between other houses on a street near mine, but the road isn't connected to my house. We often go for walks using that road. I actually like the tiny field in front of the abandoned house because there are many fresh wild plants in spring. However, I never liked the energy of the house.

It's very dark, broken, and old. Nobody takes care of it. A few years ago, during the summer, we saw someone who probably owned that house. They were staying in a camping car outside the house for a few weeks. I remember them because we greeted each other. After they left, I noticed there was some garbage outside. Originally, there was already a lot of old garbage and materials outside that house.

Year after year, I noticed more fresh garbage, which was very strange. Sometimes, the door or window was left open. I felt a dark energy. I didn't even want to pay attention to the house's energy because it was too dark. However, I had to notice that there was more garbage outside the house. There were broken clocks and glasses on the driveway or road sometimes.

A few years ago, we noticed someone burning garbage and the fire grew huge due to the wind. It was against provincial rules at that time. We should follow the schedule and rules when we burn our garbage. We almost thought the fire was going to burn the abandoned house. We had to report it because the fire was getting bigger, and the smoke reached our neighbour's house as well. Our neighbour rushed outside and checked the fire. The firefighters had to extinguish it. Phew... that was a pretty scary memory for me. There have been a few more concerning incidents involving that house since then.

Recently, my husband and I noticed more strange things about that house. After informing the police, I hope they can find the suspect soon. Otherwise, I feel like someone is still doing something in the house. I feel a bit safer because my house is not visible from there. Anyway, I'm glad that finally, someone other than us called the police.

#### 警察の聞き込み
#

これまでに警察から事件について聞き込みを受けたことが数回あります。一度は日本で、他はオーストラリアでした。最近は、ある事件について聞き込み調査を受けました。警察から聞き込み調査を受けている間は何も悪いことをしていないのにも関わらず、やはりドキドキします。

オーストラリアでの調査はとても緊張しました。強盗にあった時に被害者としてかなり深刻な聞き取りが行われました。2人の強盗がおそらく本物と思われる銃とスタンガンを所持していて、きちんと報告しなければなりませんでした。残念ながらその2人の容疑者は捕まりませんでした。長い調査を受けた後、警察の車に乗り込んで容疑者らしき人物の確認に行かなければなりませんでした。しかし、捕まっていた2人の男性はただの酔っ払いの中年男性たちで、私を脅して財布や携帯を盗んだ容疑者のギャングではありませんでした。幸い、私は無傷でしたしパスポートを失わずに済みました。ただ、運転免許証、クレジットカード、銀行のキャッシュカード、現金などは奪われました。

今回は自宅でオンラインレッスンをしていた時、突然警察がやってきて聞き込みを受けました。窓際に座っていた私は警察が到着した時にすぐに気がつき、何か聞きたいことがあるのだと察知しました。生徒さんたちには読み書きの練習をしながら待っていてもらうように告げました。

警察官は背が高くて大柄な方でした。背丈が家のドアの上の方まで届きそうなくらい背が高かったです。その警官は優しく近所の廃墟の家について質問をしてきました。近所の廃墟はすごく嫌な雰囲気を醸し出している家なので、すぐにどの家のことを言っているのかわかりました。

警官にいくつかのことを細かく質問されました。私はかなりの不安症を持っているのでなるべく性格に正直に答え、待たせている生徒のためにもスムーズに終わるように努めました。働いている途中だと伝えると、警官も早めに終わらせるようにしてくれました。

主人は犬の散歩中で外出していたのですが、聞き込みが終わった警官と外で出くわすのではないかと思っていました。一方、主人は犬の散歩から帰ってきて警察の車が家の前に停車しているのを目にして、私に何かあったのかとかなり焦ったようです。警官から詳しい事情を聞いて主人もいくつか情報を提供したそうです。レッスンが無事に終わってから聞いたのですが、廃墟に盗みに入った者がいるらしいです。後から考えるとやはりあの廃墟は不快に感じます。

その廃墟について少しお話しします。近所の方の２件の家の間にあるその廃墟は、私の家に面している道路沿いではなく、別の道沿いにあります。その道は犬の散歩でよく通ります。春には新鮮な山菜が咲くその道沿いは好きなのですが、その家の雰囲気は大嫌いです。

暗くてボロボロで古いで、誰も手入れをしていない様子です。数年前の夏、その家の持ち主らしき人を見かけたことがあります。その人たちは数週間、キャンピングカーで家の外に寝泊まりしていました。挨拶をしたのでよく覚えています。その方たちが帰宅した後、外にはたくさんのゴミが残っているのを目にしました。元々、すでに古いゴミがたくさん外に転がっている家だったのですが…。

それから時が過ぎて、おかしなことに新しいゴミがたくさん転がっているのが目につきました。ときどき家のドアや窓が空いていました。妙に暗い嫌な感じがたのであまり見ないようにしていました。ところが、最近かなりのゴミが家の外に新たに転がっているのに気がついてしまいました。時計を割ったような形跡や割れたグラスが私道部分や道路に転がっていました。

数年前には風の強い日に誰かがゴミを燃やしてかなりの炎が立ち上っていたことがあります。州の決まりでゴミを燃やしてはいけない決まりになっていた時でした。自宅で家を燃やすにはルールに従わなければなりません。私たちはその高く上がった炎があの廃墟に燃え移ってしまわないかとても心配でした。炎がみるみる間に大きくなり、隣の家の人が外に走って出てくるのが見えたので警察に通報しました。消防車が消化してなんとか大事にならずに終了しました。ふう。あの時は気が気ではありませんでした。その廃墟の周りでは他にも何かと不可思議なことが起こりがちなのです。

最近のおかしな様子を警察の聞き込みで報告した後は、少し気分が楽になりました。容疑者がすぐにわかるといいのですが…。捕まらなければきっとまた家に侵入する人がいるかもしれません。家からその廃墟は直接見えないのが救いです。いずれにせよ、やっと警察が気がついてくれたので少しホッとしています。
