I'd say steemit is just barely beyond the minimum we need to have stage.   Still very very raw.   As it gets better, it will be easier to attract more users and the virtuous cycle can continue

Many projects today are delivered incrementally in the staged approach you describe (scalable).  The 'Agile' project methodology even caters for this.

Regarding Steemit and other crypto offerings, these need to be incrementally developed as there will be limited funds for initial development and timeframes will not allow for all development to be conducted up front.
Steemit is still in its early phase.  A lot of content is still about or references Crypto and while this is not a bad thing, it shows that the community is still largely the crypto community.
Crypto needs to be the way Steemit is delivered and not a required element of understanding before it will go truly mainstream.

Great post ! Plus with a hint of space, I love it. I do agree on the scalability of things it's almost pretty to look at it from afar, I invite you to look at the history of unix versions it's a huge tree, very funny to look at.

Scalability is also an ongoing process where one has to meet unforeseen demands. Often times critics are quick to dismiss ideas with the thought that "such and such can't possibly scale," but some of the most popular products and services we use are still currently failing to scale (e.g the internet in general, services like netflix, ect). 

However, these products and services fail to scale "gracefully" over the period of ten or so years so the technologically eventually catches up only up until the point where market demands increase all over again (e.g. email started as simple text, then people wanted to add images as attachments, eventually people wanted to stream movies on the internet, and now we're dealing with 4k videos). 

It's a constant balancing act where major products are always "failing to scale," but they fail in such a way that consumers end up with better and better products each year.

Agreed.  I am always telling people to broaden their scope of their own universe and look beyond what is in front you them!

I think that in addition to scalability, modularity is also very important, ie the ability to add new parts to already existing parts of the project and that these parts fit well with each other. All designers know that if we develop a corporate identity, then it is based on several basic composite blocks that can be used to design different products. This is one type of modularity. Another type of modularity can be in the fact that a certain system is pre-laid in the company's logo, on the basis of which a logo for a subsidiary company can be developed and it will be clear to everyone that these two companies are related to each other. Of course, there are a lot of other types of modularity.
