The Chinese Guangzhou Automobile Corporation (GAC) surprised the world with its patent for extremely cheap graphene manufacturing. Back then, the price for making this super-thin form of carbon was similar to gold and experts predicted the new technology could bring the costs down by two orders of magnitude. But the world was cam as everyone knows it’s a long way from theory to real-world application.

But then the world was stunned as January of 2021 arrived and the automotive company Aion, a
 part of the GAC corporation, announced they finished developing a graphene battery. And it all sounded too good to be true. A range of 1,000 kilometers, longevity of 1,000,000 kilometers. The world was forced to pay attention but everything mostly remained calm. We just heard about similar revolutions so many times yet nobody was making such batteries…

Then, the 27th of June of 2021 came and the Chinese showcased their batteries in action at the Aion Technology Day.

Even when the battery was at 80 % of its full capacity it was still gorging on 481 kW of energy and yet the manufacturer claims this has no negative impact on the longevity of the battery. If charging at room temperature the car is capable of going for a million kilometers. The only question remains, what will the real-life performance look like.

And if you still don’t believe the numbers presented by Aion well, you will soon have the chance to either try it out for yourselves or at least watch someone else try it. The batteries are already being installed into Aion’s model V that should hit the market this September (2021)! The type 3C battery should provide 500 kilometers of range and the type 6C should come with the promised 1,000 kilometers of range. And at the same time, ultra-fast chargers should start being built all around China.
