Yesterday I logged onto SteemIt and was presented with  a poorly written article about the decline in Steem price, and how we were all doomed. After rolling my eyes harder than an epileptic at an EDM light show, I decided that replying to this brand of pseudo economics wasn't worth my time. I must have made that decision about 2,000 times because there was a plethora of these articles littering my feeds.

If that wasn't bad enough there were plenty of the finger-pointing, "I told you so" shit-bags, pandering on about how they *knew* SteemIt was a Ponzi scheme. How the decline in price only proves they were right. How the distribution of wealth is out of control, and that the earliest of adopters/investors of Steem could've fixed it by giving away their coin to people such as them. (Funny how that works huh?). 

The aforementioned shit-bags seemed to all be enjoying the pleasures of a perpetual circle-jerk because they were all meeting up in comment sections, patting each other on the back. They were taking turns telling each other, "you were right man". In their eyes they are activists. They have been preaching the doctrine of "constructive criticism". Handing down life lessons from their clouds of judgement to all us sinners. 

*I know, we should have listened. All of our problems were exactly what you said they were. Steem is doomed. You're a visionary. There does that make you happy?*

In my opinion if you are one of these shit-bags or you are teetering on the edge of doubt about SteemIt, you need to wake up because you are missing out on the key principle of this site. 

Let's make up a scenario where you're right. (You seem to enjoy imaginary scenarios). Ned, Dan, and the whales are all out to get us. Regardless of what @timcliff's [article](https://steemit.com/steemit/@timcliff/attention-sharks-there-is-blood-in-the-water-are-you-ready-to-invest) said, they hate the platform and aren't working on anything behind the scenes. Nor are they aware of any the problem areas that SteemIt has. They are terrible ogliarchs that enjoy nothing more than watching us squirm and we are but powerless pawns in a bigger game.

If all of this is true then why are you taking the time to write repeated posts to complain about it? (*I mean constructively criticize, ahem.*) If attention is the currency of the Internet, then time is the currency of life and you're wasting what precious little of it that you have blowing hot air. I can assure you that if your 1,000th post this week about, "how I'd fix it" isn't stirring a wave of change that your 1,001th post won't either. Quite simply, you are wasting your time.

The value of this site has nothing to do with any of the whales. It has nothing to do with what price Steem is going for on Poloniex. The value of Steem has everything to do with YOU. Specifically your content. This is the biggest deciding factor for the value of this site. We have heard a lot of people say it before: *If not for it's user-base, sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, SteemIt, and many others would be worth nothing*. I don't care if every one of your plans to fix SteemIt was implemented over-night, this site has zero value without great content. What value does the writing equivalent of a nasty political smear campaign bring? 

I'm not asking you to write fluff. I don't want to read a long running SteemIt infomercial. I am just urging you to write the best version of every story that you can. Tell the story that only you can tell. Stop sweating the small stuff, because you are the biggest part of this ecosystem. YOU decide SteemIt's future.
