El hecho de que dos jóvenes latinoamericanos hayan sido protagonistas en los torneos que concluyeron este sábado, es motivo de alegría y orgullo para los que habitamos en este lado del continente; dada la gran calidad de los atletas que participaron en los torneos que precedieron el inicio del Roland Garros. Me refiero por supuesto al argentino Francisco Cerúndolo y el chileno Nicolás Jarry, quienes hicieron los honores deportivos para disputar los títulos en categoría ATP-250 de los eventos de Lyon y Ginebra respectivamente.

Ambos tenistas completaron un recorrido espectacular durante esta semana, con la tarea pendiente para Cerúndolo a quien le faltó ese pequeño paso para alzar el trofeo, cayendo ante la sorpresa del evento, el inesperado anfitrión Arthur Fils en sets corridos. Pero en esta ocasión voy a abordar con un breve análisis, el momento glorioso de Jarry, quien sigue teniendo una temporada fenomenal, alcanzando presentaciones que están a la altura del compromiso en cada torneo; tal es el caso de su primer título a domicilio en su natal Santiago de Chile en el mes de marzo.

Casualmente, ese sería el único set que perdiera Jarry; porque en semifinales se vio las caras con el alemán Sascha Zverev, a quien logró dominar "sí, dominar" en dos sets. De esta manera, el chileno esperaría por el ganador entre Taylor Frit y Grigor Dimitrov, con una hazaña épica para el experimentado búlgaro, que por cierto, me parecía (con todo respeto) más accesible en la final, que el norteamericano. Sobre todo, teniendo en cuenta el gran esfuerzo extra, que tuvo que emplear Grigor para remontar un marcador adverso y ante un rival que se movía como pez en la arcilla ja,ja,ja.

No obstante, no todo sería fácil para el sudamericano en la gran final; y a continuación mis impresiones sobre lo sucedido en el partido:

Además, el chileno ya había experimentado la fortaleza de Zverev al día anterior y Dimitrov no estaba siendo tan incisivo como lo fue Sascha. Sin embargo, lo que no cambiaba era el buen saque y el forehand encendido que exhibía Nico durante toda la semana. Me gustó mucho ese drive con efecto, porque no estaba saliendo plano sino más bien con un efecto de sidespin (más visible en las repeticiones de cada punto). El tie break de ese ser, fue el 3ero que disputó Jarry sin conocer derrota, incluso, el break se lo había dado él mismo con una doble falta.

Nicolás Jarry cerraría con su servicio, con un aplastante 6-1 en solo 22 minutos y ganaba con autoridad su segundo trofeo en igual número de finales en el año. Se nota el trabajo que hace en cada rally, también cuando ejecuta ese drive corto invertido y sobre todo, la velocidad que está imprimiendo a la pelota. Tanto así, que incluso Zverev le estaba recibiendo varios metros detrás de la línea. De mantener este ritmo, el chileno seguirá dando alegrías al tenis sudamericano, dejándo en alto a nuestro continente en tierras europeas.
