There are many games that in their time were really good and even innovative in their theme but unfortunately never got a sequel or similar. The Sega Genesis offered us very good games in its time and among so many titles that we had available in the 90's, one that represents very well that era is Comix Zone. This title was released in 1995 and something that surprised me was the fact that it was released for several consoles after the Sega Genesis, in fact it can be played on the Game Boy Advance and even on the Xbox 360 but I enjoyed it in its Mega Drive version.

The main attraction of Comix Zone as the name suggests is the Comic design and theme that was so popular and so well known when the game was released. The focus of the story is simple in concept to understand but it is very refreshing and unique compared to other games, in this title we will not be a typical Comic hero fighting enemies instead everything is based on a Comic artist who one night while working on his work a strange event happens when lightning strikes him in a storm with which he is trapped inside his Comic and the main enemy of his work comes out into the real world where he proceeds to draw the Enemies of the adventure to defeat the protagonist.

This game for being so long ago and seeming to be a quick game with a short story is quite more extensive than one could imagine as it has 3 Episodes and in addition to this each episode is divided into 6 levels so that completing the entire game will take us quite some time besides having a very good level of difficulty when facing the enemies and some obstacles that we will face. All this gives us an incredible challenge to test your skills and determination in addition to playing the whole adventure with Comic theme.

As soon as we start we will be given 3 objects that will be a bomb, a knife to throw and a drink to recover our health, along the way we can find several different objects but we only have 3 slots to load them so you must choose well which ones you will take. The gameplay is to advance from frame to frame in the Comic page and in some enemies will appear either hidden on the ground or drawn in front of us by the main enemy from the real world, to defeat all the enemies and reach the corner of the box will appear different arrows to continue advancing and thus we can choose different routes to finish the pages of the Comic and thus finish the levels.

Its gameplay is what you can expect from a Sega Genesis game and a side scrolling, a simple control, somewhat limited attack combos where you can give normal punches, low and high kicks with the arrow keys and the most common and useful a jump with a punch that will help you to move towards the enemy and in many cases to hit him in a very comfortable way, As is evident to be so basic attacks can be very complicated to have several enemies on screen and more than you can chain blows one after another and not be able to do anything to avoid it, to block the blows is as simple as stop moving the character and this will automatically block the blows but attacks from a distance does not block them. Like the old combat games you must be very careful when fighting and more when there are several enemies or else you will die over and over again.

Another very striking and fun thing about Comix Zone is its great soundtrack and atmosphere, it has a very exciting and fun music that ends up adding that extra fun to the game and is wonderful with the story and graphic designs of the game. This was undoubtedly an incredible game of the 90's and a great option to play on the Sega Genesis or Mega Drive as it was also known. The use of vibrant and intense colors was something very cool to see at that time.

Hay muchos juegos que en su época fueron realmente buenos y hasta innovadores en su temática pero que desgraciadamente nunca llegaron a tener secuela o similares. La Sega Genesis nos ofreció muy buenos juegos en su tiempo y entre tantos títulos que teníamos disponibles en los años 90´ uno que representa muy bien esa época es Comix Zone. Este título fue publicado en 1995 y algo que me sorprendió fue el hecho que fue publicado para varias consolas más luego de la Sega Génesis de hecho se puede jugar en la Game Boy Advance y hasta en la Xbox 360 pero yo lo disfrute fue en su versión de Mega Drive.

El principal atractivo de Comix Zone como su propio nombre lo indica es el diseño y temática de Comic que era muy popular y tan conocida cuando fue publicado el juego. El enfoque de la historia es simple en concepto para entender pero resulta muy refrescante y única comparada con otros juegos, en este título no seremos un típico héroe de Comic luchando contra enemigos en su lugar todo se basa en un artista dibujante de Comic que una noche mientras está trabajando en su obra sucede un extraño evento al caerle un rayo de una tormenta con el cual el queda atrapado en el interior de su Comic y el Enemigo principal de su Obra sale al mundo real en donde procede a dibujar a los Enemigos de la aventura para derrotar al protagonista.

Este juego para ser de hace tanto tiempo y parecer ser un juego rápido con historia corta resulta bastante más extenso de lo que uno se podría imaginar ya que posee 3 Episodios y además de esto cada episodio se divide en 6 niveles de modo que completar todo el juego nos tomara bastante tiempo además de tener un muy buen nivel de dificultad al momento de enfrentar a los enemigos y algunos obstáculos que enfrentaremos. Todo esto nos entrega un increíble desafío para poner a prueba tus habilidades y determinación además de jugar toda la aventura con temática de Comic.

Nada más empezar nos entregaran 3 objetos que serán una Bomba, un cuchillo para lanzar y una bebida para recuperar nuestra salud, en el camino podremos encontrar varios objetos diferentes pero solo contamos con 3 ranuras para cargarlos así que debes escoger bien cuales te llevaras. El modo de juego se trata de ir avanzando de cuadro en cuadro en la página del Comic y en algunas nos aparecerán enemigos sea escondidos en el suelo o dibujados frente a nosotros por el enemigo principal desde el mundo real, al derrotar a todos los enemigos y llegar a la esquina del cuadro nos aparecerán diferentes flechas para continuar avanzado y de este modo podemos escoger diferentes rutas para terminar las páginas del Comic y con esto terminar los niveles.

Su jugabilidad es lo que se puede esperar de un juego de la Sega Génesis y un Scroll Lateral, un control sencillo, combos de ataque algo limitados en donde podrás dar golpes normales, patadas bajas y altas con las flechas de dirección y el más común y útil un salto con golpe que te servirá para avanzar hacia el enemigo y en muchos casos poder golpearlo de una manera muy cómoda, como es evidente al ser tan básicos los ataques puede resultar muy complicado al tener varios enemigos en pantalla y más que te pueden encadenar golpes uno detrás de otro y no poder hacer nada para evitarlo, para bloquear los golpes es tan sencillo como dejar de mover al personaje y este bloqueara automáticamente los golpes pero los ataques a distancia no los bloquea. Al igual que los juegos de combate antiguos debes tener bastante cuidado al combatir y más cuando sean varios enemigos o de lo contrario morirás una y otra vez.

Otra de las cosas muy llamativas y divertidas de Comix Zone es su gran banda sonora y ambientación, posee una música bastante emocionante y divertida que termina agregando ese extra de diversión al juego y queda de maravilla con la historia y diseños gráficos del juego. Este sin dudas fue un increíble juego de la década de los 90´y una gran opción para jugar en la Sega Genesis o Mega Drive como también era conocida. El uso de colores vibrantes e intensos era algo muy genial para ver en esa época.
