Spring is in the air!

Hey steemians!

Just last week It was cold and felt like this perpetual winter was going to be here forever, here in Alberta we don't really get spring, we go from winter to summer and vice versa. Feeling the winter blues a month ago, I decided to bring spring into the house to get the ball rolling, at least in my mind! I was doing some usual shopping for required household goods and supplies and came across some beautiful orchids at half their normal price near the check-out...clever idea...using my winter blues to bait me into buying more stuff! I immediately took pictures one I arrived home but never posted them like many of my random pictures that I don't have much to say about but I suppose my anticipation for sunny days ahead is the perfect opportunity to dig thru my un-posted archives!

Orchids are my favorite flowers, why? Because they pretty much care for themselves! I often hear people say they cannot keep them alive, I struggle to understand why because I have one that is 8 years old and it blooms great big white blooms twice a year, especially in winter. My only conclusion is maybe they water them too much? A little water once a week and a sunny place is sufficient. Another trick, flowers are highly competitive, set them up with other orchids and they will compete for the best blooms. My lonely orchid needed friends, now they can enrich my kitchen with their vibrant colors as a team, makes a world of difference in my mind...like the announcers of spring, a sign of hope.

We went from cold to warm so quickly soon after I wrote my #three-wishes post that the temperature reached 17 Celsius right away in the recent days and melted most of the snow. Coincidence?? lol...probably not related to my wishing for it but a welcomed break at last. In a few days of AMAZING temperatures, the sun is shining bright, the grass is already turning green in my back yard, birds & bugs are coming back, life is moving back in, I love it, at this rate it will be summer in no time. What else do I look forward to spring? I love looking for critters to do macro, going for walks in near by park and feed and interact with the migratory birds.

Spring marks the time of rebirth in the land but also baby animals!! Too cute. Ever try to get your ducklings in a row? we all know that's easier said than done. Way too early for them yet but keep in mind these are last year's goodies, in no time it will be time to chase around all this cuteness. Watch out #wednesdaywalk peeps, they might make an appearance in the near future. Just down the street, hides a park filled with Canada Geese and I always enjoy taking a stroll stalking the young families as they hatch.

All such great shots I always thought orchids took a lot to care for but seems I am wrong, Love all the shots but the four ducklings in a row is ohh so cute

Thanks! I really like the ducklings too!! It took me a while to get them all looking in the same direction! 

Orchids are really easy. The blooms last like 3 weeks to a month, just need to trim the dead part of the branch if it dries out but the green parts will continue growing between flowerings. Keeping it tied to a stick with a tiny hair clip so they grow upright and that's pretty much it.

It was well worth your patience to wait for them to all be in just the right position and pose :)
you make caring for them so easy, maybe I will try and orchid when we settle into a new place next year
