When we read the first part of this verse, I think our tendency is to think about how atheists are fools and how wise we are because we believe in God. However, if we look at the second part of this verse, which clearly says: "There is no one who does good." We must not allow our faith to make us feel superior or "better" than others. This psalm makes it very clear that all men have strayed from the path of truth and justice.

I had personal conviction when reading the first verse of this psalm, because I know there are times when I act and I think as if God did not exist. I do not generally deny the existence of God completely, but I often deny the reality of the true God, believing in a God who is more in my own image, than the God described in the Bible - a God who is not really all powerful and all love and that knows everything.

Even though atheists are fools according to this Scripture, our job is not to win an argument with them to show how foolish they are, but we are to love them. How many atheists have returned to Christ because they lost a debate in front of a Christian? Maybe a very small number, however I assure you that thousands and probably millions have become, because of the way they were accepted and loved by Christians despite their "silly" beliefs.

In our relationships with non-believers we must always maintain an attitude of humility. We should not be intimidated by their arguments and should not shy away from responding with confidence based on Scripture and reason. In fact, one of the objectives of the Inste Bible Seminary is to give Christians the confidence of the foundation of their faith according to the Word and the reality of God. May our study not make our heads grow while our hearts shrink, but may our study produce in us a greater awareness of ourselves so that we can walk with courage and compassion. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you should respond to each one (Colossians 4: 6).</center>
