The environment you create for yourself has a huge part to play in how successful you'll be in whatever you want to do. Do you want to surround yourself with people that party and have no aspirations? You can still be successful but you'll probably get dragged into things you don't want to do.

Do you want to live a focused, quiet life? Then set your environment up for what you want. This lets you live how you wanna live. 

It's tough if you have a living situation out of need and can't really get out of it. Even still, set your environment up for yourself as best you can. Cut out distractions and minimize the number of things that you worry about. In the end, your environment has a huge part to play in success.
