***Hello friends of @steemiteducation, today I bring you a topic that can be very helpful to all those teachers who at some time have the opportunity to teach a child with high abilities on a gifted child and how to educate integrate a child with these characteristics into the classroom, I hope it is useful.***

For gifted children or those with high intellectual abilities, the process of adapting to the classroom is usually quite difficult.

Despite the existence of laws that protect and regulate them, their insertion in school groups and educational actions depend, to a large extent, on the will and good disposition of the teaching team that surrounds them.

Normally, parents initiate titanic struggles so that these children are recognized in their rights to receive an education adapted to their needs. It takes years to achieve this and, many times, they invest time and money in diagnoses that are not taken into account because the administration has its own ways.

These children are characterized, mainly, by their high capacity to relate ideas and that makes them learn in a faster and more efficient way the concepts and knowledge of the world that surrounds them. They are not smart just to go to school and learn, but also to live and relate according to how they understand this world.

It is essential to have a good base of information about the characteristics, profiles and possible problems that these children may present. If the teacher knows the characteristics of these children, he will know how to distinguish one among his students. ***Detecting it early is fundamental*** for the child to feel understood; In this way, boredom, lack of attention, rejection of monotonous tasks among other manifestations will not be valued as lack of discipline, and through adaptations of the curriculum and / or accelerations will prevent the student from starting to perform below his level, one of the greatest risks since it will not give what it is capable of and will not only affect its academic performance but also in its personal development since it does not learn to make an effort, nor does it feel satisfied with a job, does not learn to manage successes and failures, do not acquire a real concept about yourself or know each other well and can not "measure up" or compare yourself with your peers.

# Below I present some recommendations to help make the adaptation in the classroom more effective:
#

- Do not label him "nerds, brains, etc." since this can make them take the opposite route.

- To consult with specialists of the area in order to make the corresponding curricular adaptation.

- Gifted children are smart, but they are still children. They are not small adults. Therefore, we must respect their immaturity and guide them like any child. Answer your questions naturally.

https://psicodiagnosis.es/images/altascapacida_640.jpg

[Imagen source](https://psicodiagnosis.es/images/altascapacida_640.jpg)

- Investigate their areas of interest and allow them to develop knowledge about what really interests them, since they often know what they want from a young age. Creating materials adapted for them will prevent boredom.

- Some of these children have serious socialization problems. It is very important to protect them from the teasing of colleagues and do activities in which they can be integrated. Excursions, group work and leisure activities are usually very helpful.

- The communication between family and school is of vital importance, since some children usually suffer school failure. It is very important to convey that, although some subjects like them more than others, they are indispensable requirements to pass the course and have general knowledge that may be useful.

[Imagen source](https://i2.wp.com/tomasalud.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/superdotado.png?fit=628%2C456)

- Partnerships for high-ability children provide excellent guidance to parents and teachers. They also organize informative activities and group work with the children as participants.

- Curricular acceleration can be an alternative. Either partially or totally it can mean feeding the natural interest of learning that they usually have.

- The professional preparation of the teacher is fundamental. It is not enough to have information. Teachers should be professionally advised to identify the cases they have and apply the corresponding professional measures.

# Conclusion:

***A gifted child, like other children, also needs education and organization. Obviously you will learn in a faster way, but that does not mean either that you can have control of everything. Giftedness is not performance, it is potential and ability to achieve greater performance, if the appropriate means are used for its development. Education is the basis and structure of the brain. Apart from intelligence, the gifted also tend to be more sensitive, creative and intuitive.***

***Although they are gifted, children also need friends, feel accepted, loved, and understood. I think the most important thing is to balance the intellectual with the emotional, is to teach them to mature and grow. And we as teachers and in conjuction with parents have to collaborate in this sense, so as not to frustrate it and that it can develop its full potential.***

***Thanks for visiting my blog and I wait for you in my next post !!***

Gifted children are also considered special needs children. Like what you had mentioned, they can get bored with the normal curriculum as they do not feel engaged. As a result, they may look lazy or inattentive during lesson resulting teachers with lack of understanding categorising them as pupils with bad behaviours.

It is there where the teacher plays a fundamental role, because it is in determining in time when a child has special abilities and not allow it to fall into discouragement or disinterest. Thanks for visiting and commenting on my blog @fun2learn!!

Good post,
It is so important to find out what they are interested in and cultivate an environment that supports different levels of learning. Far to often children who are gifted do not receive the individual education that they need in order to thrive. If they are left to carry on at the same level as their peers they often become board and disruptive, a bad situation for everyone.

It is very easy to be wrong and think that discouragement, disinterest and bad attitude mean that the child is poorly studied and disengaged, when it is all contratio, is that the child feels that he is not interested in learning something so basic for him and that he learns quickly, it is there where the teacher plays a fundamental role detecting in time a child with special abilities. Thanks for visiting my blog and commenting. Regards!!

@upsydaisy ·
Thanks! This was very informative. I have a student who is skipping a year of preschool and going right to kindergarten at 4-and-a-half. The idea that she'll need social support (because she's NOT a little adult) is so important. Very informative post.
