<center>Conflicts are situations that can arise in the classroom and that break the harmony and good development of the activities that are being carried out. They usually come accompanied by shouting, ignoring a partner, insults and / or physical aggression.</center>

Teachers have considerable difficulties when it comes to maintaining school discipline because some students have serious problems in following the norms of coexistence and try to impose their ways of thinking or acting through force. Normally, two or more personalities usually coincide in these situations and are the ones that generate chaos. They do not know how to agree, they do not have the resources to listen to the position of others and, what is worse, they still assume that, through verbal or physical aggression, the opposing party will irremediably accept their point of view.



Conflict is part of human life as a manifestation of the need to make decisions regarding some aspect. The situation of conflict arises at the moment when it is necessary to take a path and it is necessary to choose it among several that could be, even, contradictory. When the need for choice is internal, people activate a series of mechanisms that lead us to think about several factors of convenience or inconvenience of the choice we decide. This tells us that conflict, to some extent, is necessary to survive.

On the other hand, the situation arises when the need for choice comes from the environment or context in which people move. This is where several try to show their approaches and why they should be correct. **The teacher, as mediator of teaching-learning,** can use these situations so that students learn to listen to others and also to respect different opinions.



But, also, it forces them to accept the choice made as the most correct to solve the dilemma that has been raised. We have an example when choosing a place to go for a walk. Some will want to go to the countryside, others to the forest, others to the mountain or to the center of the city. **The teacher has the responsibility** to teach them the pros and cons of all places and reach a consensus. But, many times they have to become true judges of peace.

It can also be the case that what is presented is a conflict of interest or, simply, a misunderstanding by words or gestures misinterpreted, then the situation can escape the control of those involved and become an aggressive discussion.

# <center> In all these situations the most important thing is dialogue. Some guidelines can help us resolve conflicts effectively if there are episodes of aggression. Here are some recommendations:</center>

- Do everything possible to calm things down. Even, separate the parties if necessary.

- When the situation is controlled, make them see that aggression is not the way to solve anything.

- Listen to all existing positions and teach them to make the most convenient decision for all.

- Apply the sanctions that are necessary carrying out the school regulations.

- Design preventive educational activities of conflict resolution so that students develop the necessary social skills.
