The whole Steem network is ran on very little electricity, the Steemian @picokernel , made this estimate:

# Conclusion: Steem could be the best investment in a lifetime

In conclusion, I will add that the future is not certain and it will always be a guess based on information and knowledge, when we say that one coin will win over another coin. There are many opinions in the cryptocurrency world.

I tend to like Steem the most, but I see DASH and Bitcoin as coins that are very popular at the time, even they have more outdated crypto technologies in the code.

Therefore Steem can turn out to be a KILLER investment.

Agreed. The electricity cost will be a big factor in the future IMO as difficulties rise and more people join. This is why I'm also invested in Burst, mining with HDD space, a unique proof of capacity algorithm. It's environmentally extremely friendly compared to Bitcoin and other proof of work systems. Economically perhaps not as viable, but who knows where it will go. An extremely passionate dev team involved.

The world seems to be obsessed by Bitcoin just now, that could rapidly change pending the outcome of a very important vote in the US to allow bitcoin hedge funds.  Steem still has a place and it will climb again, once more people know about it.

I think that a lot more people get to know Bitcoin, everytime it is hyped. It looks like that Bitcoin could spike up till 10K this time, who knows...
No matter what Steem is the best coin of today.

Yes Bitcoin gets a lot of hype, not so much for Steem, This platform needs to get much much more popular to take on the giants Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snap etc (none of whom PAY their users),Steemit does and it will because huge because it PAYS it's users. Steem will rise again.

From what I can see Steem is a good cryptocurrency, but it also has this really cool social things of Steemit too. We as a community can use Steem. I've given out some this week to deserving people. I'll keep on doing that, but looking to buy stuff too.
