When it comes to planning which tours to do in <strong>Ushuaia</strong>, one of the first to appear is probably the one that includes going to the Esmeralda Lagoon. Said by the locals themselves, in high season the path to this lagoon becomes a "gorge of people", because of course no one wants to leave without seeing this typical postcard. And I didn't want to miss it either, so of course I went to see why it was so famous. <strong>Both the walk and the final scenery were worth it, and it absolutely justifies the fame it has among tourists from all over the world 😃. </strong> 

<blockquote>A la hora de tener que planificar qué paseos hacer en <strong>Ushuaia</strong>, seguramente uno de los primeros que aparezca sea aquel que incluye ir a la Laguna Esmeralda. Dicho por los propios locales, en la temporada alta el sendero a esta laguna se vuelve un "desfiladero de personas", porque por supuesto nadie quiere irse sin conocer esta típica postal. Y yo tampoco quería perdermela, así que por supuesto que fuí a ver por qué era tan famosa. <strong>Tanto el camino como el paisaje final valieron la pena, y se justifica absolutamente la fama que tiene entre los turistas de todas partes 😃. </strong>

After a few days in Ushuaia, I had already understood how the weather was handled in this part of the country. The weather was not constant throughout the day, but changed with the passing of the hours and in the same day you could experience all the seasons of the year. This had the advantage that the sun would almost certainly come out at some point during your trip, even if the sky did not look very promising at first light. This was the case the morning we set out on this hike, when we were surprised by a small drizzle with snowfall, but not intimidating enough to impede our walk 😃.

<blockquote>Después de unos cuántos días en Ushuaia, ya había entendido cómo se manejaba el clima por esta parte del país. El tiempo no era constante a lo largo del día, sino que cambiaba con el correr de las horas y en una misma jornada podías vivir todas las estaciones del año. Esto tenía la ventaja de que casi con seguridad, en algún momento de tu paseo iba a salir el sol, aunque a primera hora el cielo no se viera muy prometedor. Así fue la mañana que emprendimos esta caminata, cuando nos sorprendió una pequeña llovizna con nevada, pero no lo suficientemente intimidante como para impedir nuestro paseo 😃.

The beginning of the trail to Laguna Esmeralda is 12 km from the city, so the easiest way to get there is by car. To my surprise, in Ushuaia the Uber transportation application works, which allows transfers within the city to be relatively inexpensive. In addition, as I already had a group of friends who were guests of the hostel where I was working, together we could pay the cost of the trip and it was not a big expense 😃.


<blockquote>El inicio de la senda a la Laguna Esmeralda dista a 12 km de la ciudad, por lo que lo más cómodo es llegar allí en auto. Para mi sorpresa, en Ushuaia funciona la aplicación de transporte Uber, lo cuál permite que los traslados dentro de la ciudad sean relativamente económicos. Además, como ya tenía un grupo de amigos huéspedes del hostel en donde estaba trabajando, entre todos pudimos pagar el costo del viaje y no fue un gran gasto 😃.

As it is a very busy trail, this path is well trodden and signposted with markings and many informative signs. To the lagoon there are 9 km one way but it is almost impossible to get lost, plus at times you go almost single file with other hikers who also want to enjoy this place. On the way to the lagoon you pass through stretches of muddy forest, peat and have to cross streams, so it is very likely that you will end up a little dirty. In parts the trail also has wooden footbridges for terrain that is already too impassable, which I thought was a good idea to make it more accessible 😃.  

<blockquote>Al ser un sendero muy transitado, este camino está perfectamente pisado y señalizado con marcas y muchos carteles informativos. Hasta la laguna hay 9 km solo de ida pero es casi imposible perderse, además de que por momentos vas casi en fila india con otros caminantes que también quieren disfrutar de este lugar. En el trayecto a la laguna pasas por tramos de bosque embarrado, turba y hay que cruzar arroyos, por lo que es muy probable que termines un poco mugroso. En partes el camino también cuenta con pasarelas de madera para los terrenos que ya resultan demasiado intransitables, lo que me pareció una buena idea para hacerlo más accesible 😃.

As the morning progressed, the weather fortunately improved. The sky cleared just as we began to see the imposing snow-capped mountains in the background. We had been hiking for a little over an hour and were quite close to our final goal, although from there the place already looked beautiful. What I liked most of all was that these postcards were unique for me, I could not believe that I was finally traveling there ❤️.

El cielo se fue despejando justo para cuando empezamos a ver las imponentes montañas nevadas en el fondo del paisaje. Ya íbamos un poco más de una hora de caminata y estábamos bastante cerca del objetivo final, aunque desde ahí el lugar ya se veía hermoso. Lo que más me gustó de todo es que estas postales eran únicas para mí, no podía creer que al fin estaba de viaje por ahí ❤️.

The last stretch of the trail is almost all along the river that comes from the lagoon. This river already had a very particular color that gave an indication of what the color of the lagoon would be like. In spite of the number of tourists we passed along the way, everyone was very respectful and you could appreciate the silence of the place, only interrupted by the sound of the water between the stones. This natural scenery was very special 💕.

A pesar de la cantidad de turistas que nos cruzamos en el camino, todos eran muy respetuosos y se podía apreciar el silencio del lugar, solo interrumpido por el ruido del agua entre las piedras. Este escenario natural era muy especial 💕.

Nine kilometers and less than two hours later, we finally arrived at the lagoon and it was even more wonderful than I was imagining. This mirror of water had a very particular color, very appropriate with the name they gave it over the emerald. Its tonality was also quite related to the sunlight, as the rays and clouds made it change color in a matter of minutes. It was almost summer, so there were no traces of freezing, so we could see the landscape with all its melted water. <strong>Incredible ❣️.</strong>   


<blockquote>Nueve kilómetros y menos de dos horas después, finalmente llegamos a la laguna y fue aún más maravillosa de lo que me estaba imaginando. Este espejo de agua tenía un color muy particular, muy adecuado con el nombre que le pusieron sobre el esmeralda. Su tonalidad también estaba bastante relacionada con la luz del sol, ya que los rayos y las nubes hacían que cambie de color en cuestión de minutos. Ya casi era verano, por lo que no quedaban rastros de congelamiento, así que pudimos ver el paisaje con toda su agua derretida. <strong>Increíble ❣️.</strong>

Undoubtedly, the most beautiful postcard of the lagoon is with the snow-capped mountains in the background, but there is also the option of going around it a bit to see them with the other mountains from the other angle. In the end, the fact that the day was a bit cloudy was a good thing because with the intervals of different light levels we could see the lagoon in different colors. It is definitely worth visiting this place for its beauty and the breathtaking scenery 😃.

<blockquote>Sin dudas, la postal más linda de la laguna es con las montañas nevadas de fondo, pero también está la opción de rodearla un poco para verlas con las otras montañas desde el otro ángulo. Al final, que el día haya estado un poco nublado fue bueno porque con los intervalos de distintos niveles de luz pudimos ver la laguna de diferentes colores. Definitivamente vale la pena ir a conocer este lugar por lo lindo que es y por la belleza de su imponente paisaje 😃.

I recommend the trail to Laguna Esmeralda as one of the must do during your trip to Ushuaia. Personally, I think that with a little experience in trekking can be done without a guide because the trail was well marked and is quite friendly. What is necessary is to be well prepared with clothes for all weathers and an extra pair of socks in case your shoes get wet: <strong>visiting a natural place like this has its requirements, but tell me if it is not worth the effort ❤️.</strong>

<blockquote>Recomiendo el sendero a la Laguna Esmeralda como uno de los imperdibles para hacer durante tu viaje a Ushuaia. En lo personal, pienso que con un poco de experiencia en trekking se puede hacer sin necesidad de un guía porque el sendero era bien señalizado y es bastante amigable. Lo que si es necesario es ir bien preparado con ropa para todos los climas y con un par de medias extras por si se te mojan las zapatillas: <strong>visitar un lugar natural como este tiene sus requisitos, pero diganme ustedes si no se merece el esfuerzo ❤️.</strong>
