It's easy to forget that they have no power at all, and have to use diplomacy and persuasion to deal with difficult secretive governments like China and the US. Here, they're getting Chinese cooperation to learn more about just how widespread the earliest outbreak was. We know it's much higher than the official count, as in New York City, if for no other reason than the death count vs. known cases. But now they're sequencing blood samples which will give a snapshot of the early "family tree" of cases and a solid estimate for when in October and where the index case came out. It seems clear that the market in Wuhan was a superspreader event, but almost certainly not the original jump from an animal host. (Or, if it was, it happened in October or early November rather than with the December outbreak.) WHO is really on an upswing, getting cooperation from both the US and China now. More of that, please.

Do you truly think any of the information they're getting from China will be accurate? After China has had a year to destroy evidence (and even opened a dam to flood Wuhan for this very reason)? Are you really that naive? And the WHO knows it's nonsense but they're echoing it anyway. If China had not already cooked all the evidence, there would not be a WHO inspector in China (I'm not speaking from speculation but from seven years living in China, including five and a half in Beijing), and the WHO has not even bothered to hide the fact that their mission was nothing more than to rubber-stamp China's official lie.
