# As a Young Forester





Hello, I'm very glad and delighted to finally meet and join hive members of this renowned platform since I've heard this is more of a community that caters to gifts and skills and I'm really happy to be a part of such wonderful people. I'm not very good at presenting a high-quality introduction of myself, but I'll do my best in any manner I can. Hi, i am Arlena Macalalad currently a Fourth year Student of Batangas State University College of Agriculture and Forestry Philippines. I would love to share you guys some information about me and the question i still had in mind regarding the course i take and the lesson i've learned from this.

So the question "why did you chose forestry?" still haunts me. If I'm not mistaken, I was a senior high school graduate at the time, and when someone asked me the same question, I told her it was in demand internationally. So i think this was the best job for me cause it also has many opportunity after all. But the time i realized, I just smile and told the person that it's different from now, that Forestry is also a four-year course with a board certification. As well! Everywhere you will hear "What will your job be? JUST grow crops? Forestry? What can you do there?" I hope that other people's belief systems will be different that Forestry is only about planting and planting and first try to get into what you say planting and planting because even I, a forestry student, am also very keen to what subjects we're in as well as the struggles we faced. 
Not simply in plants, for a forester is also an environmentalist. We are preoccupied with the world that we are destroying. Consider the subjects we study that we find difficult to understand. Aside from minor subjects, I once asked my prof back then whether we had PE subjects and asked him, "Are we going to dance full time and still have PE?" Sounds Hmm. But before we get on the stage, or before I step on it, I can say, "Forestry is not simple." Don't underestimate us because, just as others struggle with their studies, so do we. I mean, it's just not a choice (seriously, lawyer is my first choice) but upon enrollment, I enrolled it because of my mom's I don't have any knowledge about it. I then discovered that Forestry is more on Science and Mathematics, my most hated subject is computation (But I don't hate it because I'm also really weak when it comes to that but, I definitely know how to understand problems) ALL COURSES ARE DIFFICULT BUT IF YOU ARE REALLY PERSISTENT TO FINISH JUST BELIEVE IN YOURSELF! Swear! At the end of the day, it was all worthwhile.Then when you also hear NO BECAUSE YOU WERE TOLD 'THAT IT FITTED THERE' Prove it not now but when the time comes. And how about work? A forester can be an extension worker, and we will deal with the community and anyone who is there, even if you don't want to stop there because you have to be friendly with everyone just to conduct your research (according to the graduates who are extensionists I know, and of course when we also did OJT). 
As a Third Year College Student who is taking up Bachelor of Science in Forestry, the course requires us to undergo the On The Job Training in order to experience a real working environment. On the job training is indeed vital and necessary to students because the program expands the student’s knowledge as it helps the students explore their strengths and weaknesses I the actual work area. OJT assists with career development by providing real work experiences that provide students with opportunities to develop professional skills and competencies.

It was a great experience to be able to practice at DENR CENRO Lipa; we learned a lot and gained a better understanding of the program we're in. They explained and reminded us of the importance of our job as foresters. We also had field experience and used various forester's tools. Even though the work is difficult, we enjoy it because we know we are helping the environment. The employees inspire us to improve our studies and help our environment even more. I know I'm lacking information about my course, but the DENR CENRO is there to fill my needs, particularly in creating a geographic map especially the Forestry terminologies.
