Greetings Readers
Life is slowly moving on from the loss of Vox. The other ratties are slowly adapting to being four instead of five, but there is a big empty space in the cage that just doesn't seem to be filled.
Other than that. I managed to find new work, which sadly isn't writing, but such is life.

Bolx and Saita stepped apart to look at the young man.
“Fledge, I can’t thank you enough for what you have done. Without your help, we never would have managed to…”
Fledge interrupted Saita by holding his hand up. He then looked at Bolx and said, “You cannot bond with her in this time.”
The two royals looked at each other in confusion, and Bolx half-smiled before asking, “Are you using a euphemism for…?”
“You two cannot create a baby during this time.”
Saita looked at Bolx and burst out laughing. The action ignited a fury within Fledge that he didn’t know he had.
“You think this is a laughing matter?”
Bolx also seemed a little perturbed at Saita’s reaction. He seemed thoughtful for a moment and then light-heartedly said, “Well, it would make having this goodbye a little easier.”
Tears rolled down Saita’s unscarred cheek as she laughed. Fledge continued to get angry until he eventually shouted.
“Enough! Do you think living like this is something I want?”
Bolx looked at the boy in confusion, and Saita stopped laughing. She took a deep breath and wiped at her eye.
“I can’t have kids, Fledge.” Said Saita.
Bolx looked at her in confusion, “But you just said we have a bunch of kids.”
“We do, in your future, my past. Not anymore. A woman is born with only so many eggs, and once they’re gone, they’re gone. Although I had a later start in having children and continued to have them later in life, I eventually couldn’t produce viable eggs. I technically have been in menopause for decades. I’m 250 years old. The System can reproduce a lot of my body, but it can’t replace what has run out or was taken. Even if Bolx and I were to have *sex*, which is something between me and him, it wouldn’t result in a child. It couldn’t.”
She then paused.
“What did you mean by what you said?”
“Do you think we’re your parents?” asked Bolx, with a hint of mirth. “Can’t be, you’re completely human.”
It felt like Fledge’s world shattered around him. Completely human? He had been told who his father was, and he knew his mother. This had to be false. If what he had been told his entire life was a lie, then who the hell was he? Was she even his mother?
“Fledge, did you come along because you wanted to cease your existence?” asked Saita softly.
“It doesn’t matter.” He hissed. “Turns out my entire life was a lie.”
He turned from the pair, eyes flooding with frustrated tears, and made to walk off. Saita reached out and gripped his upper arm tightly. He couldn’t pull away, but he didn’t look at her.
“Fledge. I’m going to need you to sit down and talk with us.”
She was kind, unlike his mother. He gritted his teeth. His childhood had been cold. She had ensured that he could survive, but beyond that, there was nothing. As soon as he was old enough to take care of herself, she had taken off and the Vulpine tribe had taken care of him. Rubar and his family had shown him the warmth he had longed for from his mother.
Was she even his mother? He didn’t know anymore.
Saita led him to the porch stairs and sat Fledge down. She sat down next to him, then faced him.
“Is this about being a Fledgling?”
Bolx stood before the two of them, listening. This wasn’t a word he had known, but his interest was piqued.
“I never wanted to be a Fledgling. I only agreed to it so that I could find my mother.”
“Who you think is me?”
“I thought you were, but now, I have no idea of who I even am.” He looked at Bolx. “She told me you were my father, but you say I am human. If that is so, then I cannot be your son.”
“Well, nothing stops you from being my son.” Said Bolx. “Aidan is my son, and he is fully human.”
Fledge didn’t seem to feel the same about the sentiment. He just started a word vomit storm that left Saita and Bolx in a state of confusion.
His mother, who looked like Saita, had birthed him in the mountains, in a place that looked not too different from where they were now. She had raised him in isolation, telling him about his family line and heritage. Quizzing him to make sure that he always knew who he was and where he had come from.
She had left him when he was 14, just disappearing one day and never returning. The native Vulpine pack had continued to raise him. Then, as soon as his powers had developed, he and Rubar had travelled to find out what had happened to his mother. He had become a Fledgling, as it would be far easier to search for his mother if he had the right to travel through time and space. But the work had been hard, and eventually he gave up looking for the woman who had abandoned him.
“Until you saw me.” Saita sighed.
Like I said, while it appears the book has come to an end, the story is far from being told.
