Thoughts on blogging actively on Hive
While I had bursts of activity on Steem, it's been a long, long time since I have blogged this actively over a 2 week period. I have made nearly 2 posts every day - the last time I was this active was way back in early 2017. It's the most unusual of circumstances that has made this possible. Hive being a thing has definitely been a novelty, though in the medium term, this one's probably going to fade out. Of course, that split, being isolated with very little of my possessions at hand, very little to do, and a lot of free time.

I've always enjoyed writing across a variety of topics. The ones I enjoy most are games, movies and science. For the last couple of weeks, I have been mostly writing gaming content, and I'm enjoying it a lot. Just the writing keeps me going, and I've an itch to write about a game every day.

Things are not so great on Hive, there's a tiny userbase, minimal engagement, though I'm delighted with the occasional replies I do get. Rewards are pretty decent all considered, I seem to have a regular base of readers who enjoy reading my content. (Thanks for all the support, btw!)

In the past, I would go back to being inactive after a burst of activity. This time it's different. I'm enjoying writing, and I'll keep going. Of course, at some point, things will get back to normal, and I'll probably slow down. I do ask myself whether I should post this content on a better platform than Steem or Hive, but I obviously have an emotional connection with this community, and I'd like to keep supporting Hive with content and curation, even if I would be personally better off going to a larger platform.

I've been cross-posting a selection of my posts on Steem - the engagement there seems to be even lower, but however, there are a lot of casual and infrequent users who are still using Steem. Especially a lot of old time followers from back in the day. Over time I'll probably switch to being exclusive on Hive, but I do hope both platforms can grow and thrive. As I have written multiple times over the years, I think there's a ton of things to fix and overhaul before any of that happens though. For now, though, I'm going to continue writing about gaming, and maybe some other topics in the future.

I think it would help a lot if there could be an 'off chain' way of replaying. Newer users, with very low HP, have so few Resource credits that active engagement with a variety of people is very difficult, especially if they sign up not knowing what RC even is.

When I first signed up to steem a couple years ago, I only knew cause I got noticed by Archdruid Games, and was able to ask Enjar over there a bunch of questions, and he helped point me to where I needed to go to learn everything.

Had I any knowledge of coding, I'd love to create a front end (Or possible just personal website) that pulls up the article, but has an off-chain commenting section for people not part of the blockchain, but still want to interact.

There are a lot of advanteges to Blogging on a Blockchain, but there are also many disadvantages.

Yeah, in its current state, Steem/Hive is desperately unintuitive, overly complicated, and just plain user hostile. I have written about this since the very beginning, yet over the years it hasn't gotten any better.

As the blockchain space matures, it's becoming pretty clear that Layer 2 solutions will be crucial in the future. It's pretty wasteful to clog up blockchains with data which don't really see a benefit from being on the main chain / Layer 1.

PS: It's always good to hear about people being noticed and helped by Curie supported communities :)

I'm really hoping that with the added element of community control over what is going on both on-chain and on the front-ends, things will slowly get better and genuine users and app developers will feel like this is a valuable place to invest time. Like you, I am cautiously optimistic but I don't feel like I can invest too much time before I'll start wondering if we will end up with Steem2. Let's hope the good changes come soon.

Yup, I feel pretty much the same. I don't expect any improvements in the short term, but I'll give it a couple of years to see if the community developers can deliver where Steemit Inc. failed.

That's artificial selection :) But yes, I'll go to whichever is the better platform. Due to Justin Sun's terrible decisions and effectively making the chain centralized, currently, the odds are weighed against Steem. However, it's very early, and this is crypto, things can change very quickly.

Well .... if someone works for hours crafting a post, or a painting or a drawing and earns nothing on one platform and can earn a few dollars on another platform.... โ€œnaturallyโ€ that Person is going to continue to post where they are rewarded for their honest efforts. Similar to places Like Facebook and Instagram. artists are very tired of working for nothing ....

I too have been posting and active way more than I used too.

I think both steem and hive are currently running around the same sized userbases, we're effectively a 50/50 split.

With it being only 2 weeks since Hive appeared I think we still need to give it more time before we see where we're at. We also still need to make user experiences and logon/onboarding much easier for the average person, user retention is pretty poor for steem/hive at the moment.

Anecdotally, I think there's more users on Steem, but there are more ctive users on Hive. Yes, it's too early to say how things will pan out. I'm cautiously optimistic for the long term, but things aren't looking good for either Steem or Hive in the medium term till there are some significant overhauls.

I should mention, I'm just enjoying writing. Hive, not so much, it still has all the blatant flaws that Steem did. Still, there's some hope that they'll be fixed by the new community devs on Hive.

Yeah, obviously, I totally condemn their handling of the situation. But there's still good people on Steem. Like I said, a lot of the casual / infrequent users don't really care about the politics, or are even aware of Hive. Personally, I go a long way back with many of these users, so I don't feel like abandoning the platform just yet. Also, who knows, maybe the Tron folks will clean up their act, and actually bring some marketing and new users to the platform? Yeah, very unlikely at this time.
