What happens to Ethereum price after Hard fork?
The truth is, no one really knows. A group of traders will come in with different motivations, and the overall effect will be decided by the majority.

But we can speculate. My speculation is - if the hard fork goes smoothly without any hitches, ETH will start going up. ETH was around $20 at the time of the hard fork, falling to $10 right after. Pretty surely, a lot of people bailed out thinking that's the end of Ethereum. There were many doom and gloom posts around that time. People said ETH will hit $5, some even said $2. But none of that ever happened. We have had some positive news too in the last few days.

So, if the hard fork goes smoothly, Ethereum will be in a better place than it was before the DAO heist. My bet is on the price going up slowly but surely.

However, if something goes wrong, the price is going to crash.

What do you folks think?

I agree. I think it s going to continue to go up after the hard fork. There is a lot of development going into the Ethereum network. I gain some hope by thinking of the Mt Gox collapse a couple of years ago. Bitcoin survived that disaster. We can survive the DAO hack.

Certainly. They just have to ensure that the DAO incident was a one off and only makes Ethereum stronger. My only concern now is another issue during or after the hard fork. If we can make it to a week with no issues, I'm convinced it's going to start picking up.

It may seem like Ethereum has gone through a lot, but really it is at it's very infancy. The sky's the limit if they avoid any mishaps and market it well.

The four most dangerous words in investing are: 'this time it's different.'" - Sir John Templeton

There is a possibility that after fork two chains will exist independently. Those who do not want hard-fork will have to choose losing (probably) chain. There will be miners who will not implement HF. The result is absolutely unpredictable. We'll need popcorn in the next 3 days

That's a valid point. I don't know why anyone would go with the losing chain, but it could happen.

Can't wait for Wednesday! There will either be a blood bath or a complete non event.

1) Some chinese miners can. 2) As miners majority will leave for winning chain, shares dificulty on losing chain will become much less, mining will become simpler. 3) Many will want to play game with cross-chain attacks (https://aakilfernandes.github.io/cross-chain-replay-attacks ).

Interesting post. Interesting to see I'm not the only one that is thinking about this. Though prices might seam inflated for now I don't think they will look like this 2, 3 years from now. I found this great website: https://www.coincheckup.com The site lets you check all there is to know about the team, product, communication transparency, advisors and investment statistics on every crypto. Check: https://www.coincheckup.com/coins/Ethereum#analysis To see the: Ethereum Detailed analysis

I didn't get into ETH until the DAO fiasco. I jumped in at .015 and got out at .022 thinking that it would bounce around there for a while. I bought in again at .015 and bailed out at .017 when it looked like there was going to definitely be a hard fork. I figure those who were invested but do not like the hard fork idea will bail out before the fork. I don't know what that bottom will look like, but I will probably buy in again and leave it for the mid to long term. I think there is still enough support for the concept and project that it will return to the .020's given time. I haven't made my mind up about long term projection, it may just languish there now that the luster has worn off.

I think it's going to be a slow uptick over time. Long term there's a lot of potential, but they do need to get it right.
