Focus on New Going To Distance Ruleset: Strategy and Useful Cards (ENG/ITA)

Three days ago, I published a [post](https://peakd.com/hive-140217/@libertycrypto27/soulbound-reward-cards-new-abilities-and-introduction-di-3-rulesets-in-gold-leagues-more-fun-and-more-foocus-on-game-skills-e) in which I shared my thoughts on the introduction of the new **Soulbound Reward Cards** and analyzed the new **Conscript, Martyr** and **Weapon Training** abilities. 
You will only be able to find the new Soulbound Reward Cards in chests and only starting with the next season of Splinterlands, which begins in just over three days.

Today and in this post I share **my evaluations** and **my considerations** on the new Ruleset **Going the Distance** which is one of the two new Rulesets that were added on January 24, 2023 by Splinterlands:
- **Going the Distance** - Only Monsters with Ranged attack may be used.
- **Wands Out** - Only Monsters with Magic attack may be used.

The introduction of these two new Rulesets has expanded the range of cards that can be profitably used in battle, and as a result has also increased the battle utility of cards that were not used much before.

Personally I have always focused more on cards with magic and melee attack because cards with attack from a distance have the limitation of not being able to attack from the first position but **the new Going To Distance ruleset shifts the balance a bit** and will make me reconsider my previous personal choice.

Ruleset **Going To Distance** requires that only cards that have an ranged attack** be **used in battle.

The first problem that this new ruleset brings is **the choice of card to line up in the first position**.

In fact, the **standard behavior** of cards with ranged attack is to **not be able to attack from the first position**.

Using a card with ranged attack in the first position is equivalent to having a card without attack but of course there are exceptions that change the standard behavior:
- the **ruleset Close Range**
- the **ability Close Range**

The new Going to distance ruleset has added utility to cards that have the **Close Range** ability, which become in my opinion **the first choice for the first position** in battles that have this new ruleset.

As indicated by the website https://www.splintercards.com/abilities.php?ab=55 there are **13 cards** that have the **Close Range** ability (13 monsters + 1 summoner) and I think these cards will have more utility from now on and may even increase their price in the future ;)

The **fire** element has the most cards with the Close Range ability: **Molten Ash Golem, Tinderlock** and **Lava Launcher**.
By the way, Molten Ash Golem, Tinderlock and Lava Launcher are all cards that acquire the **Close Range ability at the first level** and they all have a good number of life points, so all three are good choices for the first position.

One card that will definitely be used a lot in future Ranked Battles with the Going to distance ruleset will be the legendary Gladius card **Tatiana Blayde** that can be used with summoners with the **Conscript** ability.

I do not have Tatiana Blayde in my collection but I play regularly in the Brawls and hope to find her in the future.
Tatiana Blayde is a very strong card also because it has the **Bloodlust** ability but it is not the ideal card to play in the first position because of the life points which are not many (min.5 - max 7).

If I had Tatiana Blayde I would use her in first position only in combination with:
- a card with **Taunt** ability to direct enemy attacks away from her
- a card with the **Tank Heal** ability to heal her each round.

A possible combination could be **Tatiana Blayde + Crustacean King** (tank heal + protect) **+ Wave Brood** (Taunt)

Those who do not have cards with the Close Range ability have as a second alternative for the first position: cards that have the **Shield** ability.
The Shield ability reduces the damage taken by Melee and Ranged attacks.

There are only three cards with ranged attack that have the **Shield** ability:
- **Poseidon level 1**
- **Hero of Beyond level 5**
- **Cyclops level 3**

An **additional alternative for the first position** is to line up a card that has a double attack:
- **attack from a distance + magic attack**
- **ranged attack + melee attack**.

There is only one card that has a double ranged + magical attack and that is **Runemancer Florre**

Runemancer Florre is another good alternative for the first position in the absence of cards with the Close Range ability.
  
Instead, there are two cards that have a range attack + a melee attack and they are:
- **War Chang**
- **Vigilator**

Both **War Chang** and **Vigilator** are a good choice for first position in the absence of cards with the Close Range ability although in this case they would lose the ranged attack.

**The ideal for first position** would be to line up a card that has **three abilities together**:
- **Close Range**
- **Shield**
- **Return Fire**

But unfortunately **a card with all three of these abilities does not exist**.

## <center>Abilities useful for Ruleset Going to distance</center>

**Particularly useful abilities** in a battle that has the ruleset **Going to distance** are all those abilities that produce a positive effect on friendly ranged attack cards and produce a negative effect on enemy card attacks or statistics:
- **Close Range**: ability to attack from the first position.
- **Shield**: reduces the damage of melee and ranged attacks
- **Return Fire**: When hit with a Ranged attack, Monsters with Return Fire will return reduced damage back to their attacker
- **HeadWinds**: Reduces the Ranged attack of all enemy Monsters (-1).
- **Dodge**: Has an increased chance of evading Melee or Ranged attacks (+25% chance of evading).
- **Flying**: Has an increased chance of evading Melee or Ranged attacks from Monsters who do not have the Flying ability (+25% chance of evading).
- **Blind**: All enemy Melee & Ranged attacks have an increased chance of missing their target (+15% chance of evading).

Among the abilities I listed above the ones that have the most weight in a battle with the Going to distance ruleset are in my opinion the first four:
- **Close Range**
- **Shield**
- **Return Fire**
- **HeadWinds**

I will now show you all the cards that have at least two of the abilities I listed above.

### <center>Queen Of Crows: Close Range + HeadWinds + Return Fire</center>

A really useful card in the Going To Distance ruleset is definitely **Queen Of Crows**.
Queen Of Crows is the only card that has three of the abilities I listed earlier:
- **Close Range: level 1**
- **HeadWinds: level 3 (14 BCX)**
- **Return Fire: level 7 (85 BCX)**

Queen Of Crows is a good possible choice for the first position in a battle with Rulesets Going to distance because she has a **good number of life points** (11 life points at first level) and has the **Close Range** ability.

When it reaches **level 7** it becomes even more useful and will be a nightmare for enemy cards with ranged attack because:
- it will decrease their attack by one point (**HeadWinds**)
- it will return a reduced attack for each attack suffered (**Return Fire**)
- will decrease their speed by 1 point (**Slow**)

**Queen of Crows** of **level 1** has a cost of **$0.856**
**Queen of Crows** of **level 3** has a cost of **12,270$**
**Queen of Crows** of **level 7** has a cost of **81,617$**

### <center>Hero of Beyound: Close Range + Shield</center>

The only card that has the **Close Range + Shield** abilities is **Hero of Beyound** of **level 5**.
Hero of Beyound is an epic card of the Untamed edition.

The good number of life points (8 life points at first level) and armor points (1-2) along with the Close Range ability (level 1) and Shield ability (level 5) clearly indicate that **Hero of Beyound is a really good choice for the first position** in a battle with Rulesets Going to distance.

In the scheme below you can see one of the possible strong card combinations with Hero of Beyound that I thought of.

**Lone Boatman** would restore two armor points each round.
**Venari Crystalsmith** would restore two life points each round and remove negative statuses on Hero of Beyound.
**Cornealus** would respond to all attacks suffered by him with the **Return Fire** ability.

Hero of Beyond level 5 is a useful card but it is also not a cheap card because its current cost is **$201,159** as stated in the **Bulk Buy** section of [Peakmonsters](https://peakmonsters.com/).

### <center>Wave Brood: Close Range + Return Fire</center>

The cards that have the **Close Range + Return Fire** ability combination are only 2:
- **Queen of Crows** of **level 7**.
- **Wave Brood** of **level 6**.

Wave Brood has the Close Range ability already from level 1 but acquires the Return Fire ability only at the highest level.

I really like and use cards with the **Taunt** ability a lot because they allow me to upset the opponent's attack strategy.

The Close Range ability makes Wave Brood a good choice for first position placement in a battle with the Going to distance ruleset.
An alternative is last position placement if the goal is to protect the card in first position. In this case it is preferable to combine Wave Brood with a card that has the **Triage** ability.

I have thought of some possible battle formations using Wave Brood.

In the following image you can see a possible card combination that can be used in the **Wild Format** with **Wave Brood in first position**

**Wave Brood** of **level 1** has a cost of **$1,898**
**Wave Brood** of **level 6** costs **81,343$**

In this post I have shown a small portion of the possible combinations of cards that can be used in battles with the Going to distance ruleset.
I focused on monster cards that have at least two of the abilities that can make a difference in battle when the ruleset is Going to distance.

There are also 12 summoner type cards that have abilities that affect cards with ranged attack and whose use can increase the probability of winning a battle with the Going To Distance ruleset.

Each ruleset that is added to the game adds **new possible strategies**, **adds value to a set of cards** with certain battle statistics, and **also adds fun**.

This is why I am very happy with the recent addition of **3 Rulesets** to the battles of the **Gold+ Leagues**, **tournaments** and **Brawls** where there is a **75% chance** of having **three Rulesets** at the same time instead of two.

In a future post of mine I will focus on the second new ruleset **Wands Out** and the cards that I think are most useful to use in battle.

## <center>La nuova ruleset Going to distance: Strategia e Carte utili</center>

Tre giorni fa ho pubblicato un [post](https://peakd.com/hive-140217/@libertycrypto27/soulbound-reward-cards-new-abilities-and-introduction-di-3-rulesets-in-gold-leagues-more-fun-and-more-foocus-on-game-skills-e) in cui ho condiviso le mie considerazioni sull'introduzione delle nuove **Soulbound Reward Cards** e ho analizzato le nuove abiità **Conscript, Martyr** e **Weapon Training**. 
Sarà possibile trovare le nuove Soulbound Reward Cards solo nei forzieri e solo a partire dalla prossima stagione di Splinterlands che inizierà tra poco più di tre giorni.

Oggi e in questo post condivido le **mie valutazioni** e le **mie considerazioni** sulla nuova Ruleset **Going the Distance** che è una delle due nuove Rulesets che sono state aggiunte il 24 gennaio 2023 da Splinterlands:
- **Going the Distance** - Only Monsters with Ranged attack may be used.
- **Wands Out** - Only Monsters with Magic attack may be used.

L'introduzione di queste due nuove Rulesets ha ampliato il ventaglio di carte utilizzabili con profitto in battaglia e di conseguenza ha anche aumentato l'utilità in battaglia di carte che prima non erano molto utilizzate.

Personalmente ho sempre puntato maggiormente su carte con attacco magico e da mischia perchè le carte con attacco dalla distanza hanno il limite di non poter attaccare dalla prima posizione ma **la nuova ruleset Going To Distance sposta un pò gli equilibri** e mi farà riconsiderare la mia precedente scelta personale.

La Ruleset **Going To Distance** impone al giocatore di **utilizzare solo carte che hanno un attacco dalla distanza**.

La prima problematica che porta questa nuova ruleset è **la scelta della carta da schierare in prima posizione**.

Infatti il **comportamento standard** delle carte con attacco dalla distanza è quella di **non poter attaccare dalla prima posizione**.

Schierare una carta con attacco dalla distanza in prima posizione equivale ad avere una carta senza attacco ma ovviamente ci sono delle eccezioni che modificano il comportamento standard:
- la **ruleset Close Range**
- l'**abilità Close Range**

La nuova ruleset Going to distance ha aggiunto utilità alle carte che hanno l'abilità **Close Range** che diventano secondo me **la prima scelta per la prima posizione** nelle battaglie che hanno questa nuova ruleset.

Come indicato dal sito https://www.splintercards.com/abilities.php?ab=55 ci sono **13 carte** che hanno l'abilità **Close Range** (13 mostri + 1 evocatore) e penso che queste carte avranno una maggiore utilità d'ora in poi e potrebbero anche aumentare il loro prezzo in futuro ;)

L'elemento **fuoco** è l'elemento che ha più carte con l'abilità Close Range: **Molten Ash Golem, Tinderlock** e **Lava Launcher**.
Tra l'altro Molten Ash Golem, Tinderlock e Lava Launcher sono tutte carte che acquisiscono l'**abilità Close Range al primo livello** e hanno tutte un buon numero di punti vita e quindi sono tutte e tre le carte delle valide scelte per la prima posizione.

Una carta che sarà sicuramente molto utilizzata in futuro nelle Ranked Battle con la ruleset Going to distance sarà la carta Gladius leggendaria **Tatiana Blayde** utilizzabile con gli evocatori con l'abilità **Conscript**.

Non ho Tatiana Blayde nella mia collezione ma gioco regolarmente nelle Brawls e spero di trovarla in futuro.
Tatiana Blayde è una carta molto forte anche perchè ha l'abilità **Bloodlust** però non è la carta ideale da schierare in prima posizione a causa dei punti vita che non sono molti (min.5 - max 7).

Io se avessi Tatiana Blayde la schiererei in prima posizione solo in combinazione con:
- una carta con abilità **Taunt** per direzionare gli attacchi nemici lontano da lei
- una carta con l'abilità **Tank Heal** per curarla ad ogni round

Una possibile combinazione potrebbe essere **Tatiana Blayde + Crustacean King** (tank heal + protect) **+ Wave Brood** (Taunt)

Chi non ha carte con l'abilità Close Range ha come seconda alternativa per la prima posizione 
 le carte che hanno l'abilità **Shield**.
L'abilità Shield riduce il danno subito dagli attacchi Melee e Ranged.

Ci sono solo tre carte con attacco dalla distanza che hanno l'abilità **Shield**:
- **Poseidon livello 1**
- **Hero of Beyond livello 5**
- **Cyclops livello 3**

Un **ulteriore alternativa per la prima posizione** è schierare una carta che ha un doppio attacco:
- **attacco dalla distanza + attacco magico**
- **attacco dalla distanza + attacco da mischia**

C'è solo una carta che ha un doppio attacco dalla sistanza + magico ed è **Runemancer Florre**

Runemancer Florre è un'altra buona alternativa per la prima posizione in mancanza di carte con l'abilità Close Range.
  
Ci sono invece due carte che hanno un attacco dalla distanza + un attacco da mischia e sono:
- **War Chang**
- **Vigilator**

Sia **War Chang** che **Vigilator** sono una buona scelta per la prima posizione in mancanza di carte con l'abilità Close Range anche se in questo caso perderebbero l'attacco dalla distanza.


 
**L'ideale per la prima posizione** sarebbe schierare una carta che ha **tre abilità insieme**:
- **Close Range**
- **Shield**
- **Return Fire**

Ma purtroppo **una carta con tutte e tre queste abilità non esiste**.

## <center>Abilità utili per la Ruleset Going to distance</center>

**Le abilità particolarmente utili** in una battaglia che ha la ruleset **Going to distance** sono tutte quelle abilità che producono un effetto positivo sulle carte con attacco dalla distanza amiche e che producono un effetto negativo sugli attacchi o sulle statistiche delle carte nemiche:
- **Close Range**: abilità di attaccare dalla prima posizione
- **Shield**: riduce il danno degli attacchi da mischia e dalla distanza
- **Return Fire**: When hit with a Ranged attack, Monsters with Return Fire will return reduced damage back to their attacker
- **HeadWinds**: Reduces the Ranged attack of all enemy Monsters (-1).
- **Dodge**: Has an increased chance of evading Melee or Ranged attacks (+25% chance of evading).
- **Flying**: Has an increased chance of evading Melee or Ranged attacks from Monsters who do not have the Flying ability (+25% chance of evading)
- **Blind**: All enemy Melee & Ranged attacks have an increased chance of missing their target (+15% chance of evading).

Tra le abilità che ti ho elencato sopra quelle che hanno un peso maggiore in una battaglia con la ruleset Going to distance sono secondo me le prime quattro:
- **Close Range**
- **Shield**
- **Return Fire**
- **HeadWinds**


Adesso ti mostro tutte le carte che hanno almeno due delle abilità che ti ho elencato sopra.

### <center>Queen Of Crows: Close Range + HeadWinds + Return Fire</center>

Una carta davvero utile nella ruleset Going To Distance è sicuramente **Queen Of Crows**.
Queen Of Crows è l'unica carta che ha tre delle abilità che ti ho elencato prima:
- **Close Range: livello 1**
- **HeadWinds: livello 3 (14 BCX)**
- **Return Fire: livello 7 (85 BCX)**

Queen Of Crows è un'ottima possibile scelta per la prima posizione in una battaglia con la Rulesets Going to distance perchè ha un **buon numero di punti vita** (11 punti vita al primo livello) e ha l'abilità **Close Range**.

Quando raggiunge il **livello 7** diventa ancora più utile e sarà un incubo per le carte nemiche con attacco dalla distanza perchè:
- diminuirà il loro attacco di un punto (**HeadWinds**)
- restituirà un attacco ridotto per ogni attacco subito (**Return Fire**)
- diminuirà la loro velocità di 1 punto (**Slow**)

**Queen of Crows** di **livello 1** ha un costo di **0.856$**
**Queen of Crows** di **livello 3** ha un costo di **12.270$**
**Queen of Crows** di **livello 7** ha un costo di **81.617$**

### <center>Hero of Beyound: Close Range + Shield</center>

L'unica carta che ha le abilità **Close Range + Shield** è **Hero of Beyound** di **livello 5**.
Hero of Beyound è una carta epica dell'edizione Untamed.

Il buon numero di punti vita (8 punti vita al primo livello) e i punti armatura (1-2) insieme  l'abilità Close Range (livello 1) e all'abilità Shield (livello 5) indicano chiaramente che **Hero of Beyound è davvero un'ottima scelta per la prima posizione** in una battaglia con la Rulesets Going to distance.

Nello schema seguente puoi vedere una delle possibili e forti combinazioni di carte con Hero of Beyound a cui ho pensato.

**Lone Boatman** ripristinerebbe due punti armatura ad ogni round.
**Venari Crystalsmith** ripristierebbe due punti vita ad ogni round e eliminerebbe gli status negativi su Hero of Beyound
**Cornealus** risponderebbe a tutti gli attacchi da lui subiti grazie all'abilità **Return Fire**.

Hero of Beyond di livello 5 è una carta utile ma non è anche una carta economica perchè il suo costo attuale è di **201.159$** come indicato nella sezione **Bulk Buy** di [Peakmonsters](https://peakmonsters.com/).

### <center>Wave Brood: Close Range + Return Fire</center>

Le carte che hanno la combinazione di abilità **Close Range + Return Fire** sono solo 2:
- **Queen of Crows** di **livello 7**
- **Wave Brood** di **livello 6**

Wave Brood ha l'abilità Close Range già a partire dal livello 1 ma aquisisce l'abilità Return Fire solo al massimo livello.

Mi piacciono molto e uso molto le carte con l'abilità **Taunt** perche permettono di stravolgere la strategia di attacco dell'avversario.

L'abilità Close Range rende Wave Brood una buona scelta per il posizionamento in prima posizione in una battaglia con la ruleset Going to distance.
Un'alternativa è il posizionamento in ultima posizione se l'obiettivo è proteggere la carta in prima posizione. In questo caso è preferibile combinare Wave Brood con una carta che ha l'abilità **Triage**.

Ho pensato ad alcune formazioni di battaglia possibili utilizzando Wave Brood.

Nell'immagine seguente puoi vedere una possibile combinazione di carte utilizzabile nel **Wild Format** con **Wave Brood in prima posizione**

## <center>Considerazioni Finali</center>

In questo post ho mostrato una piccola parte delle possibili combinazioni di carte utilizzabili nelle battaglie con la ruleset Going to distance.
Mi sono focalizzato sulle carte mostro che hanno almeno due delle abilità che possono fare la differenza in battaglia quando la ruleset è Going to distance.

Ci sono anche 12 carte di tipo evocatore che hanno abilità che influiscono sulle carte con attacco dalla distanza e il cui utilizzo può aumentare la probabilità di vincere una battaglia con la ruleset Going To Distance.

Ogni ruleset che viene aggiunta al gioco aggiunge **nuove possibili strategie**, **aggiunge valore a un insieme di carte** con determinate statistiche di battaglia e **aggiunge anche divertimento**.

Per questo motivo sono molto contento della recente aggiunta di **3 Rulesets** alle battaglie delle **leghe Gold+**, dei **tornei** e delle **Brawls** in cui c'è una **probabilità del 75%** di avere **tre Rulesets** contemporaneamente invece di due.

In un mio prossimo post mi focalizzerò sulla seconda nuova ruleset **Wands Out** e sulle carte che secondo me sono più utili da utilizzare in battaglia.

L'aggiunta di nuovi rulesets è davvero qualcosa di utilissimo per rendere il gioco sempre più vario ed aumentare l'utilità in battaglia di carte che prima ne avevano spesso molto poca.

Anche tra gli Evocatori alcuni diventano così molto più versatili, giustificandone l'acquisto e l'attività di potenziamento.

L'unica cosa, magari, è che nel formato Modern è facile trovarsi con davvero poche creature da poter schierare, a volte, e quindi diventa davvero importante cercare di costruirsi deck molto diversificati e con tante carte diverse!

Those are some good suggestions and I find that it's kind of tough to build a good lineup for those rulesets. It really cuts down the cards and I try to keep the close range up near the top and I did like duo attack cards as a tank up front.
