# A new free-to-play format is coming!
## + My Modern Format Progress: Playing, Buying Starter Packs, and Upgrading Cards!

I have been on a three-day vacation with my family and it was a very nice three days where I was able to recharge my batteries.
A few hours ago I returned home and tomorrow I will start working again while waiting for next weekend when I will go back to the beach.

Today I have some free time and can resume my publishing activity on [Hive](https://hive.io/) and also my gaming activity in my favorite Hive-based games among which there is **Splinterlands**.

Returning from my short vacation I found **a very interesting announcement regarding Splinterlands**.

In fact on July 18, 2025 Splinterlands announced **the release of a new game format completely free to play**.

This new format will be released on **July 29, 2025** and will be the logical completion of **Campaign Mode**.

In fact, in the new format, it will only be possible to use **Foundation cards** and this format will be **completely free** and thus will be **a great starting point for new players** to learn the game dynamics of Splinterlands before deciding whether to buy the spellbook or not.

Those who purchase the spellbook can also earn SPS tokens as in-game rewards but the speelbook will not be a requirement to play in the new game mode.

I really like the idea behind this new format because a new game mode that is completely free to play could be an important element in onboarding new players.

# My Progress in the Modern Format.

On Splinterlands I am an active player in multiple game modes.

In **Ranked Play** I play in the game modes:
- **Modern Format**: my favorite format in which I play manually.
- **Survival Mode**: second season of testing for me. I use XBOT in this format.


In one of my previous [posts](https://peakd.com/hive-146620/@libertycrypto27/3-seasons-of-using-xbot-in-the-wild-format-results-and-evaluations-time-to-test-survival-mode-engita-j4b) I explained the reasons for my choice to stop playing in the Wild Format and started a test in Survival Mode.

In this post I share **my game activity** and **my progress** in the **Modern Format** which is my favorite game format because it is the realm of human players.
In fact, in the Modern Format there are no bots and no battle helpers that are so prevalent in the Wild Format where they overshadow the fun gameplay of Splinterlands and “kill” the fun.

At the time of writing this post there are 9 days and 22 hours until the end of **season 163**.

In the current season in Modern Format I am at **Rank 33** on the **Diamond Leaderboard** with a **rating = 3040** and with 128 battles played and 66 battles won.

My main seasonal goal in Modern Format is **improving the game achievements and game rewards** that I achieved in the previous season, **season 162**, which I finished at **rank 190** with a **rating = 3120**.

I am well on my way to achieving this goal but there are still more than nine days left until the end of the season and anything can still happen.


In the previous season I received 64877 GLINT as an end-of-season reward, and in the current season I would like to be able to earn at least 10000 GLINT to make further progress in upgrading my Rebellion Soulbound cards.

At the beginning of the season I purchased **10 Epic Draw** because I have long since completed upgrading common and rare rebellion reward cards and now my focus is on epic rebellion reward cards (completion percentage: 53%).

In the previous season I earned **504.81 SPS** with **136 battles won**.

This season I earned **236.69 SPS** with **66 battles won**.

In the **Modern Format** I play with a **card collection** consisting of **266 cards** (owned + soulboud) **= 8531 BCX = 137990 CP** which you can see from here -> [My Modern Cards](https://peakmonsters.com/@libertycrypto27/cards)

I have **138847.38 SPS staked** and this amount of SPS staked allows me to have a **Reward boost = 10.35%** in the Diamond III league of Modern Format.

My game results and even my game rewards are negatively affected by the fact that **I only have one top-level summoner** that I can use in the Modern Format: **Akane**.

When I can use maximum level Akane I can also use my maximum level unit cards and my win rate is very high.




When I cannot use Akane I almost always lose battles and for that reason one of my goals in the Moder Format is to increase the level of my Arcana Conclave summoners who are all at level 2.

To increase the level of my Conclave Arcana summoners and to also increase the level of the Conclave Arcana unit cards, I decided to focus on buying **Starter packs** because:
- they cost relatively little (1000 DEC) compared to the other card packs in the Conclave Arcana set
- they contain only common and rare cards, and most of the Arcana Conclave summoners are rare cards
- they have an estimated value above the purchase price

To purchase Starter packs I use the earnings I get:
- from the sale of Wood and Stone resources that I produce in my land plots.
- from the sale of Wild cards that XBOT rarely uses in Survival Mode.
- from the sale of cards I find in Starter packs that I use infrequently in battle in Modern Format
- from the sale of the liquid SPSs that I earn from staking my SPS tokens.

For example, a few days ago I put up for sale some cards I found in the starter packs.

Today I also converted **1500 SPS** to **12559 DEC**.

With **23K DEC** available in my in-game wallet today I purchased **23 Starter packs** from the **SHOP->CARD Packs** section of the Splinterlands website.

Thanks to exceeding 300K DEC spent in purchasing card packs, I also received **1 Mage Wagon** in which I can put 5 cards and can also increase my total contribution points in the ongoing Arcana Conflict Conclave.

In upgrading and combining cards, I really like the recent addition of the arrow symbol that permits to quickly locate and view cards for which level can be increased.

I combined all the common cards I found in the starter packs I opened today.
I increased the CC (Card Combining) of the rare cards that I use the most in Modern Format and whose level I want to increase
I sold copies of the rare cards that I don't use in Modern Format or that I only like at a very high level that is difficult to reach in the short term.

Thanks to the combination operations I did today and thanks to the Mage Wagon I received **I have increased my Contribution** in the current Conflit: **32.28 HR -> 33.24 HR**

Infatti nel nuovo formato sarà possibile utilizzare solo le **Foundation cards** e questo formato sarà **completamente gratuito** e quindi sarà **un ottimo punto di partenza per i nuovi giocatori** che potranno imparare le dinamiche di gioco di Splinterlands prima di decidere se acquistare lo spellbook oppure no.

Chi acquisterà lo spellbook potrà guadagnare anche i token SPS come ricompensa di gioco ma lo speelbook non sarà un requisito per giocare nella nuova modalità di gioco.

Mi piace molto l'idea alla base di questo nuovo formato perchè una nuova modalità di gioco completamente free to play potrebbe essere un elemento importante per l'onboarding di nuovi giocatori.

# I Miei Progressi nel Modern Format

Su Splinterlands sono un giocatore attivo in più modalità di gioco.

Nel **Ranked Play** gioco nelle modalità di gioco:
- **Modern Format**: il mio formato preferito in cui gioco manualmente
- **Survival Mode**: seconda stagione di test per me. In questo formato utilizzo XBOT. 


In un mio precedente [post](https://peakd.com/hive-146620/@libertycrypto27/3-seasons-of-using-xbot-in-the-wild-format-results-and-evaluations-time-to-test-survival-mode-engita-j4b) ho spiegato le ragioni della mia scelta di non giocare più nel Wild Format e ho iniziato un test nel Survival Mode.

In questo post condivido la **mia attività di gioco** e **i miei progressi** nel **Modern Format** che è il mio formato di gioco preferito perchè è il regno dei giocatori umani perchè non ci sono i bots e i battle helpers ad uccidere il divertimento come nel Wild Format.

Nel momento in cui scrivo questo post mancano 9 giorni e 22 ore alla fine della **stagione 163**.

Nella stagione in corso nel Modern Format sono al **Rank 33** della **Diamond Leaderboard** con un punteggio di **rating = 3040** e con 128 battaglie giocate e 66 battaglie vinte.

Il mio obiettivo stagionale principale nel Modern Format è **migliorare i risultati di gioco e le ricompense di gioco** che ho ottenuto nella stagione precedente, la **stagione 162**, che ho terminato al **rank 190** con un **rating = 3120**.

Sono sulla buona strada per raggiungere questo obiettivo ma mancano ancora più di nove giorni alla fine della stagione e tutto può ancora succedere.

Nella precedente stagione ho ricevuto 64877 GLINT come ricompensa di fine stagione e nella stagione in corso mi piacerebbe riuscire a guadagnare almeno 10000 GLINT per fare ulteriori passi in avanti nell'upgrade delle carte Rebellio Soulbound.

All'inizio della stagione ho acquistato **10 Epic Draw** perchè ho completato da molto tempo l'upgrade delle carte reward rebellion comuni e rare e adesso il mio focus è sulle carte reward rebellion epiche (percentuale di completamento: 53%).

Nella precedente stagione ho guadagnato **504.81 SPS** con **136 battaglie vinte**.

In questa stagione ho guadagnato **236.69 SPS** con **66 battaglie vinte**.

Ho **138847.38 SPS staked** e questo quantitativo di SPS staked mi permette di avere un **Reward boost = 10.35%** nella lega Diamond III del Modern Format.

I miei risultati di gioco e anche le mie ricompense di gioco sono influenzati negativamente dal fatto che **ho un solo evocatore di massimo livello** che posso utilizzare nel Modern Format: **Akane**.

Quando posso utilizzare Akane di livello massimo posso utilizzare anche le mie carte unità di massimo livello e il mio win rate è molto alto.




Quando non posso utilizzare Akane perdo quasi sempre le battaglie e per questo motivo uno dei miei obiettivi nel Moder Format è aumentare il livello dei miei evocatori Conclave Arcana che sono tutti al livello 2.

Per aumentare il livello dei miei evocatori Conclave Arcana e per aumentare anche il livello delle carte unità Conclave Arcana ho deciso di focalizzarmi sull'acquisto degli **Starter packs** perchè:
- costano relativamente poco (1000 DEC) rispetto agli altri pacchi di carte del set Conclave Arcana
- contengono solo carte comuni e rare e la maggior parte degli evocatori Conclave Arcana sono carte rare
- hanno un valore stimato superiore al prezzo di acquisto

Per acquistare gli Starter packs utilizzo i guadagni che ottengo:
- dalla vendita delle risorse Wood e Stone che produco nei miei land plots.
- dalla vendita delle Wild cards che XBOT usa raramente nel Survival Mode
- dalla vendita delle carte che trovo negli Starter packs e che uso poco in battaglia nel Modern Format
- dalla vendita degli SPS liquidi che guadagno dallo staking dei miei token SPS

Ad esempio qualche giorno fa ho messo in vendita alcune carte che ho trovato negli starter packs.

Oggi ho convertito anche **1500 SPS** in **12559 DEC**

Con **23K DEC** disponibili nel mio in-game wallet oggi ho acquistato **23 Starter packs** dalla sezione **SHOP->CARD Packs** del sito di Splinterlands.

Grazie al superamento di 300K DEC spesi nell'acquisto di pacchi di carte ho ricevuto anche **1 Mage Wagon** nel quale potrò mettere 5 carte e potrò aumentare anche il mio total contribution points nel Conclave Arcana Conflict in corso.

Nella fase di upgrade e combinazione delle carte mi piace molto la recente aggiunta del simbolo della freccia che permette di individuare e visualizzare velocemente le carte per cui è possibile aumentare il livello.

Ho combinato tutte le carte comuni che ho trovato negli starter packs che ho aperto oggi.
Ho aumentato il CC (Card Combining) delle carte rare che uso di più nel Modern Format e di cui voglio aumentare il livello
Ho venduto le copie delle carte rare che non uso nel Modern Format o che mi piacciono solo ad un livello molto alto che è difficile da raggiungere nel breve periodo.

Grazie alle operazioni di combinazione che ho fatto oggi e grazie al Mage Wagon che ho ricevuto **ho aumentato il mio Contribution** nel Conflit in corso: **32.28 HR -> 33.24 HR**

That free mode may help, but I would make a change, and I would make it possible to win very small amounts of SPS and Glint, maybe x100 times less than the paid version, but still a bit, just enough to  make it to pay for a Spellbook after one month or so.
