# What To Do With My Wild Format Cards? Sell, Rent or Use a Bot? Initial Reasoning and Evaluation

I am playing on Splinterlands since September 2019, and when I started playing, it was possible to buy Beta set packs in the Splinterlands Shop.

From September 2019 to now there have been many changes to the game dynamics and many different set cards have been released.

One of the changes that modified the game dynamics the most was the division of Ranked battles into **two Formats**:
- the **Wild format** in which you can use all card sets and in which you can use bots
- the **Modern format** in which you can only use cards from the last two card sets released and in which you cannot use bots and battle helpers.

Although I have been playing for more than 5 years Splinterlands has been and still is my favorite blockchain based game.
When the ban on using bots in Modern Format was announced, I immediately chose to play only in Modern Format because I like to play manually and I like to play only against real players like myself who experience fun playing Splinterlands.

My choice to play only in the Modern Format produced as a natural consequence another choice: to **sell cards usable in the Wild Format**.


So before the Rebellion set was released I sold many of my cards of the Beta set and when the Rebellion set was released I sold many of my cards of the Untamed set.

At a distance of time I can absolutely be happy with my choice because the cards usable only in the Wild Format lost a lot of value.
There are several reasons why cards usable only in the Wild Format have lost a lot of value over time but in my opinion the main cause of this decrease in value is the presence of bots in the Wild Format.

Thanks to the sale of many of my Beta and Untamed cards, I have been able to build up a **competitive card collection in the Modern Format Gold leagues**.

In fact, today, when the end of the season is less than 7 days from the end of the season, I am playing in the Gold I league and am 200 rating points away from the Diamond III league whose entry would allow me to receive 10 Minor Chest + 7 Major Chest + 1 Ultimate Chest.

Although I have sold many of my Beta and Untamed cards to buy cards that can be used in the Modern Format, I still have 179 cards corresponding to 3068 BCX that have a market value of $1266 based on the Market Price value given by [Peakmonsters](https://peakmonsters.com/@libertycrypto27/cards).

If I exclude the cards I use as worker cards in my lands I have 163 cards that are currently completely unused.

## What to do with my Wild Format Cards?

I have **four possible options** to choose to use my Wild Format cards and in this post I share my personal evaluations and considerations to receive opinions and advice from my dear readers.


## First option: play in Wild format as well.
The **first option** is: continue playing in the Modern Format and **play in the Wild Format as well**.

This is not an option for me! Why do I have to play manually against bots that are more efficient than a real person? = 0 fun for me!

## Second option: Sell my Beta and Untamed cards.

The **second option** is **selling my cards** to increase the battle strength of my Modern Format usable card collection and to set aside something to invest in the new card set when it comes out and when I can no longer use my Chaos Legion cards in Modern Format.

If I put all my Wild Format cards for sale (excluding the cards in the lands) I could earn more than $1000 but I could see that it is not easy to sell the cards that cannot be used in Modern Format especially the cards that have relatively high prices.

In fact about two months ago I put my level 3 Byzantine Kitty up for sale at the lowest price for BCX but still today I have not found any buyers also because the market value of Byzantine Kitty has decreased since the day I put it up for sale.

I should have sold Byzantine Kitty a long time ago but this was a big mistake on my part because I reasoned with my heart instead of using my head.

I did not sell Byzantine Kitty when I should have because:
- she was always my favorite summoner when I played in the Wild Format
- I wanted her so badly before I was able to purchase her
- I always held out a small hope: to see bots completely eliminated from my favorite blockchain-based game.

Since eliminating bots even from Wild Format is only my hope but not in the plans of Splinterlands and not in the plans of many SPS stakeholders I decided a few months ago to sell Byzantine Kitty even though I consider this card the best usable summoner in Wild Format.

## Third option: renting

The alternative to selling is to rent out my cards to other players.
For example from the rental of my Byzantine Kitty I could earn about 139 DEC per day = $0.108 per day.

If I sell Byzantine Kitty I can earn $360.
If I rent Byzantine Kitty I can earn $0.108 per day.

I prefer to try to sell Byzantine Kitty at the Lowest Market Price = $360 because to earn $360 from renting a card that I no longer use in play I would have to wait: ($360/$0.108) = **3333 days = 9.13 years**.

If I successfully rented all my Wild Format cards I could earn 171.49 DEC per day (based on Low Market Price) and although this value is higher than the previous value it is not high enough to make me prefer renting to selling.

## Fourth option: use a bot

The **fourth option** is **to use a bot** to whom I can entrust my Wild Format cards.

In 5 years I have never used a bot but maybe it is time to do so because this way I will have the elements to evaluate this fourth option as well.

A bot has a purchase cost and also an operating cost (a percentage of SPS earned) and so to use it would have to earn me an amount of SPS that would cover its costs but also the cost of the Wild Pass and the cost of a hypothetical SPS rental.

## Final Considerations

I like playing in the Modern Format but I also like trying to find the right strategy for Splinterlands assets that I don't use in game.

My **strategy for my Wild Format cards** will be in order of priority:
- **selling**: I will try to put all my Wild Format cards up for sale at the lowest price per BCX on the market.
- **testing a bot for the first time**: if most of my cards do not find a buyer in the short term I will try a bot
- **rental**: if the rewards produced by the bot will not be enough to cover the costs like the wild pass I will rent my cards.

Of course I will show the results of the practical application of my strategy in future posts!

# Cosa fare con le mie Wild Format Cards? Vendere, Noleggiare o Usare un Bot? Ragionamenti e valutazioni iniziali

Gioco su Splinterlands dal settembre 2019 e quando ho iniziato a giocare io era possibile acquistare i pacchi del set Beta nello Shop di Splinterlands.

Da settembre 2019 ad oggi ci sono stati tanti cambiamenti alle dinamiche di gioco e sono state rilasciate molte carte di set diversi.

Uno dei cambiamenti che ha modificato maggiormente le dinamiche di gioco è stata la divisione delle Ranked battles in due Formati:
- il formato Wild in cui è possibile utilizzare tutti i set di carte e in cui è possibile utilizzare i bot
- il formato Modern in cui è possibile utilizzare solo le carte degli ultimi due set rilasciati e in cui non è possibile utilizzare i bots e i battle helpers.

Anche se gioco da più di 5 anni Splinterlands è stato ed è ancora oggi il mio gioco basato su blockchain preferito.
Quando è stato annunciato il divieto di utilizzare i bots nel Modern Format ho immediatamente scelto di giocare solo nel Modern Format perchè mi piace giocare manualmente e mi piace giocare solo contro giocatori reali come me che provano divertimento a giocare su Splinterlands.

La mia scelta di giocare solo nel Modern Format ha prodotto come naturale conseguenza un'altra scelta: vendere le carte utilizzabili nel Wild Format.

Così prima del rilascio del set Rebellion ho venduto molte mie carte del set Beta e quando è stato rilasciato il set Rebellion ho venduto molte mie carte del set Untamed.

A distanza di tempo posso assolutamente essere contento della mia scelta perchè le carte utilizzabili solo nel Wild Format hanno perso molto valore.
Ci sono diversi motivi per cui le carte utilizzabili solo nel Wild Format hanno perso molto valore con il passare del tempo ma secondo me la causa principale di questa diminuzione di valore è la presenza dei bots nel Wild Format.

Grazie alla vendita di molte mie carte Beta e Untamed ho potuto costruirmi una collezione di carte competitiva nelle leghe Gold del Modern Format.

Anche se ho venduto molte mie carte dei set Beta e Untamed per acquistare carte utilizzabili nel Modern Format ho ancora 179 carte corrispondenti a 3068 BCX che hanno un valore di mercato di 1266$ in base al valore Market Price indicato da [Peakmonsters](https://peakmonsters.com/@libertycrypto27/cards).

## Cosa fare con le mie carte utilizzabili nel Wild Format?

Ho quattro opzioni da scegliere per utilizzare le mie Wild Format cards e in questo post condivido le mie personali valutazioni e considerazioni per ricevere opinioni e consigli dai miei cari lettori.


## Prima opzione: giocare anche nel Wild format
La **prima opzione** è: continuare a giocare nel Modern Format e **giocare anche nel Wild Format**.

Questa per me non è un opzione per me! Perchè devo giocare manualmente contro bots più efficienti di una persona reale? = divertimento 0 per me!

## Seconda opzione: Vendere le mie carte Beta e Untamed

La **seconda opzione** è **vendere le mie carte** per aumentare la forza in battaglia della mia collezione di carte utilizzabile nel Modern Format e per mettere da parte qualcosa da investire nel nuovo set di carte quando uscirà e quando non potrò più utilizzare nel Modern Format le mie carte Chaos Legion.

Se metto in vendita tutte le mie Wild Format cards (escluse le carte nelle lands) potrei guadagnare più di 1000$ ma ho potuto constatare che non è facile vendere le carte non utilizzabili nel Modern Format soprattutto per quanto riguarda le carte che hanno prezzi relativamente alti.

Infatti mesi fa ho messo in vendita la mia Byzantine Kitty di livello 3 al prezzo più basso per BCX ma ancora oggi non ho trovato compratori anche perchè il valore di mercato di Byzantine Kitty è diminuito rispetto al giorno in cui l'avevo messa in vendita.

Dovevo vendere Byzantine Kitty molto tempo fa ma questo è stato un grande errore da parte mia perchè ho ragionato con il cuore invece di utilizzare la testa.

Non ho venduto Byzantine Kitty quando avrei dovuto farlo perchè:
- è sempre stato il mio evocatore preferito quando giocavo nel Wild Format
- l'ho tanto desiderata prima di riuscire ad acquistarla
- ho sempre nutrito una piccola speranza: vedere i bots completamente eliminati dal mio gioco basato su blockchain preferito.

Dato che eliminare i bots anche dal Wild Format è solo una mia speranza ma non è nei piani di Splinterlands e non è nei piani di molti SPS stakeholders ho deciso qualche mese fa di vendere Byzantine Kitty anche se considero questa carta il migliore evocatore utilizzabile nel Wild Format.

## Terza opzione: il noleggio

L'alternativa alla vendita è dare in noleggio le mie carte ad altri giocatori.
Ad esempio dal noleggio della mia Byzantine Kitty potrei guadagnare circa 139 DEC al giorno = 0.108$ al giorno.

Se vendo Byzantine Kitty posso guadagnare 360$
Se noleggio Byzantine Kitty posso guadagnare 0.108$ al giorno.

Preferisco provare a vendere Byzantine Kitty al prezzo più basso sul mercato = 360$ perchè per guadagnare 360$ dal noleggio di una carta che non uso più in gioco dovrei aspettare: (360$/0.108$) = **3333 giorni = 9.13 anni**.

Se noleggiassi con successo tutte le mie Wild Format cards potrei guadagnare 171.49 DEC al giorno (in base al Low Market Price) e anche se questo valore è più alto del precedente non è abbastanza alto da farmi preferire il noleggio alla vendita.

## Quarta opzione: usare un bot

La **quarta opzione** è **usare un bot** a cui affidare le mie Wild Format cards.

In 5 anni non ho mai utilizzato un bot ma forse è arrivato il momento di farlo perchè in questo modo avrò gli elementi per valutare anche questa quarta opzione.

Un bot ha un costo di acquisto e anche un costo di gestione (una percentuale degli SPS guadagnati) e quindi per utilizzarlo dovrebbe farmi guadagnare un quantitativo di SPS in grado di coprire i suoi costi ma anche il costo del Wild Pass e il costo di un ipotetico noleggio di SPS.

Mi piace giocare nel Modern Format ma mi piace anche cercare di trovare la strategia giusta per gli assets di Splinterlands che non uso in game.
 
La **mia strategia per le mie Wild Format cards** sarà in ordine di priorità:
- **vendita**: proverò a mettere in vendita tutte le mie Wild Format cards al prezzo più basso per BCX presente sul mercato
- **testare per la prima volta un bot**: se la maggior parte delle mie carte non troverà un compratore nel breve termine proverò un bot
- **noleggio**: se le ricompense prodotte dal bot non saranno sufficienti a coprire i costi come il wild pass noleggerò le mie carte.

Ovviamente mostrerò i risultati dell'applicazione pratica della mia strategia nei prossimi post!

Vorrei poterti suggerire qualcosa, ma penso che la tua strategia sia già più che corretta: non ci sono molte ragioni per poter sperare che le carte che si trovano nel Wild Format possano vedere il loro valore aumentare, per cui venderle sembra davvero l'opzione di gran lunga migliore.

Come alternativa un bot sembra la seconda soluzione da preferirsi, perchè tra SPS e GLINT vale la pena valutare se i guadagni possono o meno essere decenti.

Da ultimo, se il bot non si rivela un'opzione valida, il noleggio quantomeno ti fornisce un piccolo ma costante introito di DEC che puoi utilizzare per cose più utili.

Giocare contro i bots ovviamente nemmeno se uno venisse pagato per farlo 😂

In parte ci hanno provato con le Lands, ma fintanto che nel formato Wild (a causa dei bots) le ricompense saranno così basse non so quante speranze ci siano di veder invertire la tendenza... anche perchè all'orizzonte non ci sono per ora nuove modalità di gioco o cambiamenti drastici, per cui il mio timore è che i vecchi assets diverranno via via di più (perchè tutti i set alla fine finiscono nel Wild format) e quindi la domanda degli stessi continuerà a calare sempre più...

I think you made a great decision of selling Beta and Untamed Ones as the price has been going down.
The wild cards are of great help if those are used on land and I hope you have already given a thought about that.
I too play both in wild and modern formats, but balancing the time between blogging, 9 to 5 job and then on gaming is something like walking on a rope.

I hope Splinterlands will think of a way to make the cards relevant again otherwise the sold packs of the new expansions will be fewer and fewer... before I was incentivized to buy the cards more than the tokens whereas now if I had to buy something I would prefer to buy the SPS tokens...

It will be interesting to see what you decide to do. I have some Wild cards but haven't decided what I would do yet. I haven't sold out yet but I have been in modern for quite a while. After they added that tax for rentals, I stopped renting out the cards. So I wonder if renting still works in wild.

I think you don't like the idea of using a bot in the first place. Selling at this price comes at a loss, and renting it out gives almost no profit. I could have offered to help you play with your wild cards, but I'm currently caught up with family issues.. unless you don't mind if I skip days without playing.

It's sad that you've not been able to sell your kitty, such a gem this card used to be..

Yes my friend, the idea of using a bot doesn't excite me but it might be a temporary solution....

The loss of value of cards coming out of the Wild Format is a problem that needs to be solved in my opinion, and I hope Splinterlands will think of something new because the lands use case has not had the desired effects.

One thing to consider with a bot is that even if you don't earn enough SPS to cover the cost of the Wild pass you will earn a lot more Glint with the bot than in Modern league. So it might be a good idea to give bot a try...

Anche io mi sono pentito di alcune scelte fatte in passato, un account del valore di 8k (che non era poi tanto) passato oggi a 500 euro. 8k che oggi avrebbero permesso di fare ottime cose. Soprattutto ho switchato le carte untamed e beta per comprare pacchetti e carte dell'espansione Chaos (scelta poi rivalatasi disastrosa). Oggi grazie a questo switch posso giocare in modern ma in termini economici e stato un bagno di sangue. In modern, secondo il mio modestissimo parere, senza investire diventerà difficile giocare soprattutto per i piccoli account, le reward sono bloccate e in più c'è sempre la deadline dell'uscita della nuova espansione che manda in pensione le carte del penultimo set con conseguente crollo del valore (di conseguenza anche investire diventa pericoloso). È difficile capire come muoversi, è complessa la faccenda :D

E' meglio non guardare al passato, la mia collezione di carte era arrivata a valere 50K ma mi piace vedere sempre il lato positivo e in questo caso è l'acquisizione dell'esperienza per agire diversamente in situazioni future (sperando ci siano) simili ;)
Sul discorso carte mi trovi d'accordo e infatti in molti miei post ho evidenziato questo problema... i due formati funzionerebbero anche bene se fossero uguali ma la presenza dei bots nel Wild rende i due formati totalmente diversi anche in rapporto alle rewards.
Si deve pensare ad un modo per ridare importanza alle carte altrimenti i pacchi venduti delle nuove espansioni saranno sempre di meno... vedremo cosa succederà
