## Introduction
The [internet](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-internet "Hive") is gradually shifting to a totally new era. For every decade we experience a significant change on the internet [technology](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-technology). This time around, the world of [blockchain](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/blockchain "Hive web3") and [cryptocurrency](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/cryptocurrency) are undeniably the hottest things in the technology space today. They have been rapidly expanding over the past few years, we see new projects and platforms emerging almost daily. [Hive](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-what-is-hive "Hive web3") is one of these platforms. Hive is popularly known as a blockchain based [social media](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-social-media). But in real facts and also taking into consideration the new developments on Hive, I classify Hive to be beyond that, it is a home for all. Hive does more than a normal social media platform does.
Think of any social media platform you know, Hive has it's equivalent on the Hive chain. None of the [Web2](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-web-2-0 "Hive") social networks like [Twitter](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-twitter), [Facebook](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-facebook), Instagram, Reddit, Medium will be capable of bringing people together than Hive does. There are currently numerous [web3](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-web-3-0) platforms most popular among them include [Bitcoin](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-bitcoin), Ethereum, Polygon and more. They all have specific problems they are solving. Just like those web3 platforms, Hive intends to bring people together through the web3 technology. Hive is exceptional to other blockchain [networks](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-network) in that, it is a scalable, secured, fast, and accessible to everyone. Most of the blockchain networks finds it impossible to achieve all these functionalities at once.
As a community-driven [ecosystem](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-ecosystem-digital), hive rewards it's members who create all forms of contents on the platform. People share articles, picture, music, and many other forms of content on Hive and they receive [rewards](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-curation-reward-hive) for doing such. Isn't this beautiful? those who also contribute to the community by reading and curating others content are also rewarded. You can see that, everything you do on the platform, you are being rewarded for that. In this blog I will be touching on the Hive blockchain reward system, some of the [Decentralized Applications (DApps)](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-decentralized-applications-dapps) running on Hive, Hive communities, sidechains and [tokens](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-token) on Hive.
------------------
##
How [content creators](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-content-creator) and curators are rewarded on Hive

----------
You may be wondering how the rewarding system will be possible right? In this section of this blog, I will be sharing with you how the rewards are done. Hive uses the [proof-of-stake](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-proof-of-stake-pos) [consensus](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-consensus) algorithm to keep it running as a [decentralized](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-decentralization) system. This algorithm involves the community participating in the network governance by [staking](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-staking) the Hive tokens. Users with significant Stake can propose and [vote](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-vote-hive) on changes to the network. You can see here that users have a direct say in how rewards are distributed and developments on the blockchain.
If you create a content on Hive, can earn you upvotes from other users. The upvotes are in the form of the Hive based Tokens ([HIVE](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-usdhive), [HBD](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-hive-backed-dollar-hbd),[HP](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-hive-power-hp)). You can earn rewards by participating in community initiatives and challenges, such as the [HPud (Power Up Day)](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-hpud) initiative, [LPUD(Leopower up day)](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-lpud) and many others depending on the community, these encourages users to stake their tokens and support the network growth. The rewards on the users' contents are eligible for withdrawal 7 days after the content is created. Each content has a [7days voting window](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-7-day-voting-window-hive "about hive") . This means that, any vote after the 7th day is not redeemable.
Now let's talk about [curators](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-curator-hive) on Hive. They play an important role in the ecosystem just like the content creators. They discover and upvote high-quality content. Curators can earn rewards by upvoting content that is later upvoted by others, which helps to distribute rewards more evenly across the network. This does not mean the curators are different set of people in the network. I fact, every user can be a curator by performing the responsibilities of a curator like I indicated. Some users grow their Hive power so that you can earn more from curating others content. Every user can earn more curation rewards by joining Curation Trails.

### Hive dApps
As a blockchain network, the decentralized applications are very essential. They are applications built on top of the Hive blockchain. They provide various services to users. In hive, we interact on the platform through the Dapps. There are several of the Dapps available and any user with the knowledge of web 3 technology can build his own Dapp because the blockchain being an opensource. Like I said earlier on, Hive is beyond a blogging platform, currently majority of the Dapps are for sharing of contents but there are still other Dapps for specific functionalities; [Leodex](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglosary-leodex) for instance is a decentralized exchange on Hive,Beeswap token management and swapping and a lot more. You can explore more on the hive Dapps at [hive.io](https://hive.io/eco). Lets look at some of the DApps on Hive
#### Social Media Dapps

###
Hive Communities

Communities is another key feature that makes Hive more interesting. In Hive, we have communities. Communities are basically groups of users that share a common interest or goal and come together to create and curate content. We have communities for gamers, developers, artists, ladies and more. Some of the popular communities on Hive include OCD, Leofinance, Splinitelands, GEMS, Photography Lovers, Hive Gaming, Hive Learners, Actifit, Music and More.
-------------------------
###
Hive Side Chains

Side chains are a feature of the Hive ecosystem that allow for the creation of separate, parallel blockchains that are still connected to the main Hive blockchain. These side chains allow for the creation of new Dapps and communities, as well as the integration of existing ones. Some of the popular side chains on Hive include:
#### LeoFinance
The Leofinance side chain focuses on finance-related content and services. Users share finance, business, technology, economic related blogs, they as well as access various financial tools and services such as cubFinance, Leodex on the Leofinance side chain. There are a lot of projects going on in leofinance alone. The new UI has just been launched and it opens a new era for [microblogging](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-microblogging) on Hive through the [leothreads](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-leothreads). LEO is Leofiance's native token.
#### Splinterlands
This is a side chain that provides a platform for a popular blockchain-based trading card game. It allows users to collect and trade digital cards, as well as participate in various gaming tournaments. It has it's native token called the SPS token which gamers earn by playing the card games..
-------------------------------
###
Tokens on Hive

Tokens are another key feature of the Hive ecosystem. These are digital assets that are created and traded on the Hive blockchain. Some of the popular tokens on Hive include:
**Hive**: This is the native token of the Hive blockchain. It is used as a means of exchange for various services and Dapps on the platform.
**Hive Dollars:** This is a stablecoin that is pegged to the value of the US dollar. It is used as a means of exchange and store of value on the Hive platform.
------------------------------
###
The Hive Engine

This is the first [smart contract](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-smart-contract " about Hive") on Hive. IT provides a platform for creating and trading tokens on the Hive blockchain. It is one of the powers of the Hive chain. Through the Hive engine, users and communities can create and manage their own tradable tokens. side chains like Leo Finance, Splinterlands, utilizes the hive engine for minting of tokens. There are a lot of other tokens on Hive aside HBD, HP and Hive thanks to the hive engine smart contract.
--------
###
Conclusion

------
The Hive ecosystem is a rapidly growing and evolving. And the services for the community keep growing every day. It started as just a blogging platform but now, a lot more functionalities have proved that Hive is beyond just a blogging platform but a full blockchain ecosystem focused on community building. Hive is seriously impacting people's live around the world through both [on-chain](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-on-chain) and [off chain](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-off-chain) means. In Ghana here, we have about 8 boreholes built through the charity fun of Hive. We also have the Hive students Hub focused on impacting the lives of students. There is something for everyone on Hive. Hive is gradually building a community on the internet through web 3 and the future is obviously a very promising one for the Hive community.
Thank you for your time in my blog. Stay safe!
