Making routines and rules at home can be an impossible mission if you do not have some criteria in mind, so it is essential that parents change their perspective. Sometimes it can be frustrating and be discouraging to cope with the constant impulsive behavior of a child with ADHD, but there are ways to make life easier, both at home and at school. The first thing to do is accept that a child with ADHD has a brain different from other children and that to work well, we must take that into account. [1](https://www.google.com/search?biw=1440&bih=720&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=Oh0KW6_KBIzXzwLamITADg&q=ADHD&oq=ADHD&gs_l=img.3..0j0i67k1l3j0l6.19215.20931.0.22059.7.5.0.0.0.0.228.436.2-2.2.0....0...1c.1.64.img..5.2.435.0..35i39k1.0.9_4YuYbdd9o#imgrc=2pGOcnlbOlUW7M:) >*Children with ADHD have the capacity to learn the right from the wrong, but their internal regulation is essential to control impulsive behavior.*
https://steemitimages.com/300x300/http://riveroaks-wp.s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/29210115/ADHD-650x650.png
Encouraging the development of a child with ADHD means helping them with their needs and modifying their own behavior to manage their child's behavior. Medication may be the first treatment, but there are other behavioral forms that can help improve the behavior of the child with ADHD and improve their quality of life. ### How a child with ADHD should be treated? In order to learn to treat a child with ADHD, some points should be taken into account and this way, it will be improved almost without you noticing not only your relationship but also the way in which life is handled:
https://steemitimages.com/200x200/https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-G2QEqv_r2rg/Ves9HGFRErI/AAAAAAAANF4/0GQyZENlraY/s1600/rutinaC.jpg
1- Organize a schedule at home. Have specific times for each thing (waking up, eating, playing, doing home and school work, watching television, etc.). The schedule will have to be visual and put it in a place where your child always sees it. If you can not read, use images or symbols. [2](https://www.google.com/search?biw=1440&bih=720&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=UR0KW4iHEpD6zgKq-K3oDg&q=tdah+tener+horarios&oq=tdah+tener+horarios&gs_l=img.3...136748.150609.0.150737.23.21.2.0.0.0.383.3324.0j5j9j1.15.0....0...1c.1.64.img..6.9.1829...0j35i39k1j0i67k1j0i24k1.0.S4tXD0gJaSg#imgrc=hl3U0MEm3c5PZM:) 2- Establishes rules at home. The rules of behavior should be simple, clear and short. The consequences will also have to be very clear and when applied will have to proceed with consistency and speed. 3- Be positive. Tell your child what you want instead of what you do not want and reward him or her on a regular basis for good behavior, even without small things.
https://steemitimages.com/300x300/http://radiomejor.com/sitio/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/momtalkingtochild.jpg
[3](https://www.google.com/search?biw=1440&bih=720&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=Tx8KW_fSNY27zwL61KTABA&q=reglas+en+el+hogar+dibujo&oq=reglas+en+el+hogar+dibujo&gs_l=img.3...1764.2974.0.3262.7.7.0.0.0.0.186.873.0j5.5.0....0...1c.1.64.img..2.0.0....0.PPYuzdXhEfA#imgrc=F9j85qcvI0JuUM:) 4- Make sure that the instructions are understood. Call your child's attention, look him in the eyes and tell him in a clear and calm voice exactly what you want. Once said, tell him to repeat the instructions (which should be short and simple). 5- Be consistent. Promise only when you can do it. Avoid both physical and verbal punishment, this would only make things worse. 6- Provide constant supervision to your child. Being impulsive they need to be supervised. 7- Help your child learn social skills and understand the rules. 8- Help in school activities and help him to have everything well organized (both material and studies). Keep task routines and focus on your effort and not on the results. ### Activities to do with a child with ADHD Some activities that can be done with a child with ADHD can be: * Limit distractions when you are doing a task. * Promote the exercise. Physical activity burns excess energy in a healthy way. It also helps the child to focus his attention on specific movements. This can decrease impulsivity. Exercise also improves concentration, decreases depression and anxiety, and stimulates the brain. * Regulate sleep patterns. To help them rest better, eliminate stimulants such as sugar and caffeine, and decrease television time. Establish a healthy and soothing ritual for bedtime. * Foster expressive thinking. Children with ADHD may lack self-control. This makes them talk and act before they think. Ask your child to verbalize their thoughts and reasoning when the need arises to act. https://www.universidadviu.es/sites/default/files/old-blog/2015/11/iStock_000077270935_Large-1024x768.jpg [4](https://www.google.com/search?q=ni%C3%B1os+tdah&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjeo7Wd8KTbAhVC7FMKHcnqCvYQ_AUICigB&biw=1440&bih=720#imgrc=BuyJUZN9Ib88fM:) >Reference: http://www.tdahytu.es/recomendaciones-para-padres-de-ninos-con-tdah/
https://cdn.steemitimages.com/0x0/https://cdn.steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmef9sPaX8yemUNdvZQGFBmUbeBtvymV31cAsbC5jANW7h/image.png

I liked the post very much, I am a mother of three children with this condition. One of my motivations for writing in the Steemiteducation community is to give advice to teachers so that the relationship in the classroom is satisfactory. There are many other tips that have helped me: 1.-How to give only one instruction at a time. 2.-Tell them to look in your face when you are talking to them (to make sure they are paying attention) 3.-Do not overload them with school activities, they do not do well devoting the afternoon to directed tasks, it is better to enroll them in recreational activities. 4.-Offer a diet low in sugar. 5.-Reinforce them positively. 5.-Reforzarlos positivamente.

Today there are many children who suffer from this disorder, but many treatments have been advanced to control it, some parents refuse to use pharamaceutical treatments to improve this pathology however it is very effective! Good post! Regards!!

I am one of those that not all cases of ADHD need to be treated with medication. Change in diet makes the world of difference first of all and like you mentioned above, sometimes we need to adapt our mainstream lifestyle to fit the needs of these very unique little people. If you have done all of the above and still feel like drugs are necessary, by all means go that route since in the end, as parents, we just want what is best for our own children.
