<liketuimages> <center>  _You cannot come to Taiwan without eating its famous beef noodles. Every shop has its own recipe, from the broth and noodle, to the cut of beef used and how it's cooked. This is my favourite, closed during COVID and reopened the week I came back. Lucky me._  _The dumplings here are devine and are only a fraction of the price of a well known overrated chain that has gone global in recent years. The cold sliced liver is another of my favourite dish here. Both are my must order every time I come here._  _I found this little restaurant that focuses on healthy fresh ingredients. You choose a main, rice ( there's a choice or plain white, brown or mixed), and three vegetable sides ( from a choice of around ten). And this whole meal only cost about USD4!!_  _Stinky tofu is sure to split people. You either love it or hate it. The tofu is soaked in liquid, normally tea till it ferments, releasing a strong unique aroma. Then it's deep fried to give it another flavour. Here it's grilled which is quite unusual._  _I call this poor man's sausage, which is how it originated. The stall is located outside a very famous temple in Taiwan, and the 'sausage' is made from some sort of flour made into a jelly like texture. Then it's cooked in a very tasty sauce. The contrasting texture between the silky soft tofu and chewy glutinous balls is heaven. I'm so missing this._ </center> </liketuimages> Taiwan is well known for many things, landscape, hikes, tea, night markets, political sensitivity, 7- 11 (did you see my [previous post](https://peakd.com/hive-147010/@livinguktaiwan/cuteness-overload-at-7-11-in-taiwan) π, and also delicious food. You can get yummilicious street food for less than USD1, or Michelin grade restaurant gourmet food at USD100 per head. And of course, there's lots of choices in between. The selection above represents only a small part of what I ate during my recent visit. Going through the photos, is already making me miss Taiwan and the food so much. They're part of the gourd family, a lot harder than zucchini and cucumber. The size is about the size of a hand and they look like when you cup your hands together, which is what we call them in Hong Kong - cup hand gourd. In Taiwan they're called Buddhist hand gourd, same meaning but more poetic π. Normally we cut them in chunks to make a soup, this is the first time I've had them grated, and got be to say it was a lot nicer.

Man. I really love new and exciting food. When I worked in Charity I would occasionally have my lunch in the library which would promote foreign food. I had something different weekly, it was awesome. Sadly it was only Eastern European stuff. I would have loved some further east food!

With more people moving around the world nowadays, I think we're starting to see more food variety, often at the markets.Β In the past, I've seen food stalls from Turkey, Afghanistan, middle east, Africa, and often wanted to try them, but was worried I wouldn't like it, so I always went back to Asian stuff which I'm more familiar with. π Food promotion from the library is a great way to try out new stuff as in a way you're forced to!!!!

Hubby can't stand natto, he literally throws up if he eats it due to the slimy texture!! Stinky tofu on the other hand he loves but doesn't have often in Asia as you get some dodgy stall holders who soak the tofu in 'you don't want to know what' liquid to get the smelly aroma instead of natural fermentation. Sounds like you might like stinky tofu then, in takes natto to another level π

I miss Taiwan. I've been there 4 times. The third and 4th time, I stayed 25 days and 26 days respectively. And I just go to Taiwan for a food trip. Luckily, I found some people who hosted me and let me stay longer. :D

Taiwan is my second alternative to Japan. It was so cheap to fly from the Philippines to Taiwan in 2016 and 2017. I enjoyed eating the dumplings and beef noodle soup. The rice, chicken, and side dishes complete the whole meal. It was a food haven experience. <3

The sandwich was really nice, and I could literally take one big bite and everything would taste exactly as it should - soft bread, crunchy coating, nicely cooked pork and the egg was still nice and soft inside, yummy!!

My favorite one is the noodles soup. I used to eat that kind of soup here but I think it is very far from how tasty yours their. Here when you dine earlier in their store it tastes better but if you dine at almost night time their soup changes it is because the more customers arrived the more they just added water to the broth. And spending just 4 USD for all of that? Wow, that's amazing π€€.

If I went to Taiwan I would eat their famous beef noodles, it is a meal that looks super delicious. The meat you see is like what we make here in Venezuela located in South America, cut into moderate pieces, which with its noodles is to be eaten daily. Oh my God! To see all these dishes made me craving for some Asian food!!! And I already had dinner!
