If I could turn back time, I would do it all over again

Quite a conundrum trying to think of that one thing I would want to change in my life if I could go back in time!
There are many regrets, but looking back they are quite trivial now.

#### Become a Chef?
So...if I could have my life over, the one thing big thing I would want to do, is to have changed my career path and have joined a chef school, BUT.... read to the end for that big BUT....
 
I used to stand on my Ouma's (grandma) kitchen chair from a very young age and *help* her cooking and baking. I could not even read but would ask Ouma for the *Decipe Book*!

I love cooking and baking and creating dishes that are not only visually pleasing, but also tastes delicious; let's be totally honest, enjoying a good meal or dessert is something that makes people happy and for me, that always is the bonus.

I very likely would have ended up specializing in being a pastry chef. Kneading and molding the pastry and creating a work of art is immensely satisfying.

There are many pathways this choice would have taken me on; I could have become a restaurateur, or become a banquet or function caterer; something I dabbled in part-time which was REAL hard work, but immensely satisfying and so interesting as one gets to see how different people celebrate special occasions.

I still remember one wedding where the theme was a barn dance; the bride and groom changed into jeans and checkered shirts and danced the night away.
It was a friend's niece and even our catering team joined in the dancing once our work was done. I have never seen such a relaxed and casual bride who, by the way, was a chemical engineer; one would have expected her to want a grand affair!

#### Working in the Food Industry...
The question is, would I still have enjoyed working with food if this became my career? 
@owasco told us how she does not enjoy cooking after having run her own restaurant for years.

I am aware that this is really hard work with long hours, but it always has been satisfying seeing the enjoyment on people's faces.

I have to cook for guests in our bnb at times and of course the family has to be fed.

Something I really enjoy is the foodie challenges here on Hive, although I've not had much time of late with all the happenings on #silverbloggers!

## The Big Question...
Had I gone to a chef school back in my youth, the entire course of my life would have changed for sure!

For starters, I would never have met the love of my life, the man I've been married to for 46 years, as I met him through a work colleague in the career path I chose back in the day when I was working for land surveyors as a learner draughtswoman. I ended up working as a GIS Technician (Geographic Info Services) which is so far removed from the food industry yet something I did enjoy!

Post retirement, I'm running my own bnb so have landed in the hospitality business quite by chance as I initially only planned on running a little airbnb, but in a registered bnb, food certainly does play a big part!

Life certainly is strange with its twists and turns and often takes us on unexpected pathways but looking back now, I am so happy that I did not take that route as I am very happy and content with the way my life turned out!

You sure are quite the baker, everything looks so good. I think you would have made an excellent chef, although you already are but they do work long hours and weekends too, tough schedule, especially with children.

Yes those long hours are the worst! I used to waitress for my aunt as a teen and saw what hard work it was, but am happy now that cooking and baking became more of a hobby but I would still like to have learned some tricks of the trade😉 Thank you for your nice comments @farm-mom!

These are all my food taken from old foodie challenges I took part in here on the blockchain, the guests mostly just get a traditional English breakfast although I prefer just giving them a Continental breakfast since Covid to reduce contact, much easier too😉
